The 16th annual Pride Tournament wrappedup this past weekend with arguably one of the strongest intermediate line-upsto be seen this year outside of a qualifying tournament. Six of the top 10ranked Ontario intermediate teams wereamong a field of 16 teams who battled it out over the weekend with the BridgeportProforma Braves coming out on top as the “A” Division Champions fortheir 2nd time in 3 years. Port Elginhad another solid weekend forcing Bridgeportto the “IF” game but were unable to defend their 2005 title. Thetable is set for a great rubber match next year as Port Elgin’s firstappearance at the Pride tournament last year saw them defeat Bridgeportin their 2004 title defence. The Alvinston Indians finished third with both oftheir losses in the double knockout “A” Division coming by way of 1run deficits to Port Elgin. The Mitchell Mets a perennial “A”Division contender rounded out the “A” Division again this year butwere unable to get by the solid hitting of Bridgeporton Saturday night and Alvinston Sunday morning.

Harriston in their first appearance at the PrideTournament came out on top of a very solid “B” Division field. TheElmira Jrs. had a strong weekend knocking off both the Elmira Cubs and the TavistockMerchants before bowing out to Harriston in the “B” Divisionfinals. Harriston, knocked in to the “B” Division with a round 1 lossto the Elmira Jrs. (1-0) was able to exact some sweet revenge on the Jrs. onSunday when the money was on the line.

The Breslau Black Sox captured the “C”Division championship with wins over Moorefield and then Rockwood in thefinals.

With the addition of 4 new teams and 6 teams on awaiting list the Pride Tournament continues to be a popular choice to kick off theyear. Jim Farwell runs a great tournamentand when Mother Nature cooperates you can’t find a better way to spend aMay weekend. A warm welcome to the Alvinston Indians, Morpeth Magic, Harriston, and the Kitchener Selects. Likewise, a big thanks to all the teams that havecontinued to battle it out and share some laughs in the “arena”year after year. It was a pleasure having you and we look forward to seeing youagain next year.
