BOX SCORE

Game 6
Japan vs. Mexico
will probably start at 4pm according to the two reps that just met at the score table next door - they were wrong, it will be 4:20pm for first pitch

Japan at Mexico

T1
Japan at bat
5, and he slams out to the beer tent, home run for Japan -  1 - 0
1, walks
12 singles, drives runner to 3b
15, out
25, out

I am not going to complain about the bright sun, but I have not seen anything on the scoreboard all day, excpept glare. I am counting on the announcer to give me the count, score, etc.

B1
Mexico at bat
5, singles, runs it out, safe
14,
passed ball, runner scores.
Mexico looking ok for a team that just spent a couple of days in various airports under a lot of stress. Glad they made it.
16, hit hard on the knee, walk to 1b
runners on 1 and 3
12 singles and drives in a run - nice blooper to lf
runners on 1 and 2
17, walks, and the bases are loaded

2
Japan chipping away, another run scored, runners on 1 and 2
missed some innings due to circumstances beyond my control, still cannot read the score board due to the beautiful sunlight.

Japan, nailed at 3b, nice throw by Mexico

B4

Mexico, line drive to 3b, runner safe at 1b

14, runner on 3b,  2 out, goes down swinging
0 runs, still 3-3 after four innings

T5
Japan, single
15, ss, home run, 2 runs score - now its a 5 - 3 game
19, another 2 run home run, that should make it a 7 - 3 game
5, walks
inning ended, 6pm
7-3 for Japan

B5
Mexico
24, out
20, out at 1b
pop out, end of inning
7-3 for Japan after five full innings

T6
Japan
2 pop outs in a row
end of inning.

The ISF section is filling up now as we approach time for the opening ceremonies. The media booth John Thompson and I have had to ourselves most of the day is filling up too.

B6
Mexico
home run for Mexico, and the stands come alive, major cheering
Now Japan has a 7-4 lead over Mexico

T7
Japan
first batter walked
2, Ono, grounds to pitcher, out at 1b, runner safe at 2b
19, Nakmura, out
6, singles, RBI
now its 8-4 for Japan
high into deep cf and no one gets it, runners on 1 and 3, 2 out
1, Murasato, triples a hot one down 1b line, RBI, making it 9-4 now; runner on 3b
8, Ishimura, walks, runners on the corners, 2 out
7, Uramato, out

I hear bagpipes playing in the background

B7
Mexico
14, Leon, out
10, Fuentes, fly out
20, 1b, nailed in the ribs, walk to first
16, fly out to lf, end of the game

I think some expected Japan to walk away with this due to the travel woes of the Mexican team but Mexico put on a good show.

Final:

10 runs for Japan
4 runs for Mexico

6:42pm  end of game
