Stittsville 56ers win the Greater Ottawa Fastball League playoff title

Thursday, October 8, 2009
Ottawa, ON

Stittsville, ON 56ers made it two years in a row, winning the I4C Consulting trophy and the Greater Ottawa Fastball League (www.GOFL.ca) playoff championship with a 3 games to 2 final series win over the Quyon, QC COMBAT Flyers.

The 56ers won Game 1 at home by a score of 7-1, but Quyon rebounded to tie the series with a 4-3 in the friendly confines of the Quyon Fairgrounds in Game 2. Game 3 saw the young Flyers squad win on the road, taking a 2-1 decision on the road at the Grove, needing 8 innings to win.

Game 4 was started on Monday night (Oct 8) in Quyon, but rain halted the game at the end of the third inning with the score tied at 0-0. The teams decided that Game 4 would be completed the following night (Oct 9) in Quyon and if Game 5 was necessary it would be played immediately afterward.

When play resumed, the 56ers scored six unanswered runs to tie the final series at two games apiece with a 6-0 victory. In the Game 5 played immediately following, with Stittsville as the "home" team despite it being played in Quyon, the 56ers score three runs in the first two innings and held on for a 3-2 win to claim the league playoff title.

Dan Bradley was the workhorse for Stittsville with all three pitching wins. Drew Hathway had both wins on the slab for Quyon. Dan Jessiman had three home runs for Stittsville in the series, while Matt Greer had two dingers for Quyon.
