May 31, 2010

Niagara on the Lake, ON

May 31, 2010

Fastball Community,

Final preparations are taking place as the 7th Annual Snapper Shootout begins play this Friday June 4 with six great matchups to get the ball rolling.  Built for slo-pitch (booooo!), Centennial Park in Virgil, ON will polish herself off once again for the great game of fastball.  The 3 diamond complex will be going at full steam beginning with 3 games starting at 6:45pm (ISC ranking in brackets)..  G1 on the schedule pits the Owen Sound Selects(13) taking on Hill United(NR) out of Lackawanna, NY as both teams make their Shootout debuts.  G2 sees the 2009 GHFL Champion Waterdown Hammer(33) taking on the St. Thomas Centennials(29) who boast a ton of big game experience.  In G3, the host Niagara Snappers(19) will take the field against the always tough Kitchener-Waterloo Cubs(20) with both teams trying to establish themselves at the open level.

The three late games will see first pitches being thrown at 9pm.  G4 will feature the Toronto Gators(23) taking on the Palermo Athletics(35) as the newly formed Gators see where they stand against the battle tested A's.  The Ashland Stockpack(17) who look to redeem themselves after losing in the 09 Shootout final, toil with the balanced Elmira Expos(24) of the SPMFL in G5.  The revamped Jarvis Travelers(2) will be on hand as the Wyevale Tribe(32) provide the opposition in a game between two ISC Ontario Travel League teams.

Divisional games will continue on Saturday June 5 starting at 9am with many more quality matchups promised throughout the weekend.  For fans looking to get an early look at the teams vying for the ISC World Tournament, this is a great opportunity to see them first hand as 14 of the 16 participating teams are ranked in the top 36 of the ISC Pre-Season Rankings.  Along with the great ball, "The Snapshack" will be open once again providing some terrific food options and "The Turtle Hut" will be offering cold beverages and a great view of the game action.  We look forward to seeing everyone down in Niagara for what is shaping up to be 3 days of great fastball and if you can't make it to the park be sure to stay informed via Al's as reports will be posted throughout the weekend.
