Beautiful night for fastball at Hillside Park in Waterloo tonite. The
home town teams did well, with the South Perth League locals winning all
four games against the challengers.
Elmira Expos needed only 4 1/2 innings to defeat the Ingersoll Crush 8 -
0. Dan Martin got the win. allowing no runs, on 2 hits and 6
strikeouts. Adam Martin went 2 for the Crush allowed 7 runs, 5 earned,
on 4 hits and 3 walks. Todd Winkworth wet 2 innings and allowed three
hits for one run.
In the second game on the lower diamond, the Kitchener Outlaws with Mel
Ross in the circle scratched out a 3 to 2 win over Matt Leahy and the St
Thomas Storm. The Storm got their first run in the 4th, the Outlaws
went ahead with 2 in the 6th Both teams scored in the 7th. Brian Kron
went 2 for 3 and made an outstanding catch in deep right to save the
game for the Outlaws.
Wellington Sox lost the use of half their bats to the umpires before the
game, but used those left over to a grand slam win over the Waterdown
Hammer. Wellington scored 5 in the 4th on Aaron Smalls slammer and
added 2 more in the 6th on Geoff Gunson's 2 RBI single, for a 7 - 0
win. Todd Uhrig got the win, Jim Hurst the loss. Ron Gilbert will be
taking offers on those unused bats on EBay later this weekend.
The KW Cubs and Palermo A's also lit up the scoresheet with a total of
21 hits, and a walk off homer by the Cub's Adam Hiller to defeat the
A's. Brad Thomson had a 4 hit night, with 1 homer and 4 RBIs to pick up
the game MVP, Adam Hiller had the 3 run dinger to win the game. For
Palermo, Marty Humphries had 2 home runs, Todd Hamblin 2 RBIs on 2 hits,
and Brian Prowse an RBI on 2 hits. This was a good game, Cubs looked
like they were going to win easily, but the A's kept coming back
