Houston Carnage Wins 30th Annual Houston Father's Day Tournament

June 21, 2011

Houston, TX

Monday June 20

The Houston Carnage topped off a 7-1 run through the Geo-Per Houston Fathers Day Tournament with a 5-0 win over The Houston Bull's. The Carnage had never finished higher than 3rd on Fathers Day in Houston before Sunday.

The Carnage started their weekend on Saturday morning with a 4-0 loss to The Houston Bull's. Eventual tournament Most Valuable Pitcher Tony Mancha kept The Carnage down by working out of a couple of jam's. The Carnie's left the bases loaded in the 2nd and again in the 4th but couldn't capitalize off the stong pitching of Mancha. The tournament opener was highlighted by the outstanding defense of The Bull's 3rd baseman Drew Duron who snagged two hard hit balls with runners in scoring position as The Bull's held on for the win.

After an uplifting pep talk from head coach Danny Craft, The Carnage bat's became hotter than the Texas sun, as they cruised through the losers bracket outscoring the opposition 70-8. The Houston offense was led by tournament MVP Mike Contreras (on loan from The San Antonio Titan's) who went 13 for 20 with 2 home runs, 4 triples and 3 doubles while driving in 13 runs. Derrick Kennedy and Freddy Carmona combined for 17rbi's which was enough to land both an all-tournament plaque.

The defense was led by the top notch pitching of 20 year old New Zealander Thomas Enoka (4-0) and Joe Crouch (3-1). Enoka and Crouch combined for 80 K's and 6 walks in 50 innings of work, while allowing just 4 earned runs. Enoka's efforts were enough to get him his first All Tournament selection in the states.

With this 1st place finish the Carnage move to 14-3 on the season. They are in action next at the San Antonio Glow Worm 4th of July Tournament.
