Lords sweep Mohawk to improve to 7-1

OCAA Women's Softball

Game One: Durham defeated Mohawk 9-3

Game Two: Durham defeated Mohawk 10-1

OSHAWA, Ont. - Good defence. Solid pitching. Timely hitting. That's what Durham College women's softball head coach Jim Nemish asked for from his team and they delivered in a big way.

With a pair of wins over the Mohawk Mountaineers Tuesday night, the Lords improved to 7-1 to move into first place in the OCAA.

Durham's offence was firing on all cylinders in game one as they scored eight runs over the opening four innings en route to a 9-3 victory.

Playing in her first full game of the season, Sam MacCallum (Whitby, Ont.) made a big splash as she went 3-for-4 at the plate including hitting a two-run home run. Megan McDonald (Brampton, Ont.) and Meaghan Maddigan (Brampton, Ont.) also had multi-hit games with two hits apiece.

Emma Greer (Peterborough, Ont.) pitched her first OCAA career complete game, allowing three earned runs off of six hits while striking out three.

In game two, a six-run breakout sixth inning was the turning point as the Lords beat Mohawk 10-1.

The Lords had a well-balanced offensive attached with seven players recording at least one hit. Hope Eagleson (Plattsville, Ont.) and Alanna Stanoev (Whitby, Ont.) each had home runs. Stanoev was perfect at the plate going 2-for-2 with two runs and two RBI.

McDonald earned her first win in a Lords uniform. She finished the night allowing only one unearned run on six hits and a walk over the complete game.

The Lords will be back on the diamond on Thursday night when they host the Humber Hawks. It will be a showdown for first place as the Hawks sport a 4-1 record.
