PFA - GTA Challenge Cup update
Oshawa Bombers went undefeated to take the inaugural GTA Challenge
championship, claiming bragging rights to the Intermediate Men's title that
had teams from Durham Men's Fastball League, North York Fastball League,
Richmond Hill Fastball League and the host Pickering Fastball Association.
The Bombers defeated Dieppe T Hawks 3 to 1 in the final with Ryan Swift
going the distance on the mound. Brandon Parks 3 run homer in the 3rd was
the decisive blow. Swift gave up 5 hits, 1 base on balls and had 12
strikeouts. It was his 4th victory of the weekend. Matt Browne gave up 4
hits, 2 bases on balls and had 7 strikeouts for the T Hawks.
The Bombers defeated the Sting 3 to 0 in one semi-final while Dieppe
defeated the Pickering Panthers 8 to 3 in the other semi-final.
One of the plays of the day was a game ending catch in the bottom of the
7th inning with the bases loaded and 2 out in the Dieppe - Stouffville 0 -
0 tie in the last game of the round robin. Lenny Parsons of the T Hawks
hit a towering drive to left field that had Bill (The Legend) McAndrews
twisting and turning before finally making the grab.
