ESF/CEB HOLD ANNUAL CONGRESS

The European baseball and softball confederations held their Congress in Hoofddorp, Netherlands this weekend. This is the fourth time that both confederations have held the annual gathering of their membership jointly. To further to cooperation, the CEB and ESF formed the European Baseball/Softball Steering Committee (EBSSC) as a regional alliance to provide guidance on key issues around the development and operations of the two sports throughout Europe.

The 2017 ESF/CEB Congress will be held in Belgrade, Serbia. 
 
 
JAPAN CROWNED CHAMPION OF DOWN UNDER SERIES

The Japan national women's softball team showed why they are ranked number 1 in the world by taking home the 2016 International Down Under Series trophy.

Japan defeated the Aussie Green 2-0 in the Grand Final after manufacturing two unearned runs in the 3rd inning. The Aussie Green offense was able to produce just two hits while Japan only allowed 10 runs in the seven games they played.

Aussie Gold finished the WBSC-sanctioned tournament strongly with a 4-2 win over New Zealand to claim 3rd place.
                                                                             
 
 
AUSTRALIA CROWNS FIVE NATIONAL CHAMPIONS DURING SUMMER OF SOFTBALL

Elinor McKenzie Shield (U-19 Women's): Queensland v New South Wales. Both teams came out fighting, however NSW proved the better of the two teams with their accurate pitching and strong hitting to win 8-0.
 
Nox Bailey Shield (U-19 Men's):NSW was the dominant team throughout the tournament going 9-0 in round-robin play outscoring their opponents by 60 runs.  Taking on a tired Qld team, the Final was scoreless after three innings when NSW shortstop Henry Groth smashed a two-run home run to right field in the 4th inning, which eventually proved to be the winning runs. The win gives NSW the Nox Bailey Shield for the third consecutive year and 12th in the Championship's history.
 
Gilley Shield (Women's): Queensland defeated the two-time defending champions New South Wales for the Gilley Shield with thrilling 3-1 victory.
 
Arthur Allsopp Shield (U-17 Men's): After an extremely tough week of competition, New South Wales took the 2016 Arthur Allsopp Shield home, defeating Queensland, 5-4.
 
Esther Deason Shield (U-17 Women's): NSW defended their 2015 championship at home by winning the 2016 U-17 Women's National Softball Championship, scoring two runs in the 1st inning on their way to a 3-1 Championship victory over Queensland.
 
 
 
ELECTIONS HELD WITHIN THREE NATIONAL FEDERATIONS

 

The Uganda Baseball and Softball Association (UBASA) held elections for their executive committee. Dennis Kasozi was elected as the new president of the national governing body for baseball and softball. The executives will serve a two-year term ending in 2017.

 

The Mexican Softball Federation re-elected Mr. Rolando Guerrero as President of the organization during their 2016 Ordinary Session in Cancun. The new Governing Council has a mandate until 2020.

 

The Guatemala Softball Association (ASOSOFT) elected Mr. Hector Ruben Sazo Hernandez as their new president. He will replace Mr. Amilcar Estrada who could not run again due to term limits. Mr. Estrada will continue to serve as Vice President of the Pan American Softball Confederation (CONPASA).
