Team Canada Tune Up Softball Coaches Clinic – 3 PD Points!
 

Softball Ontario is pleased to share a National Coaching Certification Program (NCCP) Professional Development Points Opportunity.  Team Canada Coaches Staff will provide an interactive and fun 3 hour Coaches Clinic in Burlington, ON- Friday, April 15, 2016 from 7:00 pm to 10:00 pm.

Team Canada Coaches Staff and Clinic Instructors:

Senior Women’s Head Coach- Mark Smith had an impressive 25 year international softball career, during which he was considered one of the best pitchers in the world. He won two International Softball Federation World Championships and four Pan American gold medals – two as a player and two as a coach, among many other accolades.

Junior Women’s Head Coach- Melissa Basilio Assistant Coach of Canada`s Senior Women`s National Team and Head Coach of Canada`s Junior Women`s National Team since 2009.  Melissa attended 4 years at University of Delaware and was named Second Team All-Colonial Association (2002-2003).  Those same years she was co-captian.  Melissa was an outstanding defensive third baseman and was known for her quick glove and strong arm.  Her Coaching roster includes:  Winthrop Eagles, Assistant Coach with the Markham Tigers and Assistant Coach with St. Mary's Catholic Secondary School.

Topics to be covered:

1.  Art & Science of Practice Planning
In this session, Team Canada Coaches will discuss how to develop practice plans that are focused on developing specific skills versus random activities that may or may not be part of an overall theme.

2.  Player Evaluation & Selection
This is geared more for competitive Coaches.  How to conduct a player evaluation now?  Are practices subjective or objective?  Do they prepare athletes for the test or are athletes expected to come prepared to perform?  What does a sound selection process look like?

3.  Preparing for the Season
As the season approaches, how does a softball coach get ready?  What are the key components of getting prepared for the season?

4.  Questions and Answer Session
Softball Coaches will have an opportunity to ask Team Canada Coaches any Coaching related questions.

Softball Ontario, along with Softball Canada and the Coaching Association of Canada recognize the value of having certified NCCP coaches that are engaged in Professional Development programs which reinforce the values of lifelong learning and sharing within the coaching community.

PD points can be earned through a variety of activities that certified coaches already participate in including: National and Provincial Sport Organization conferences and workshops, coaching committees, e-Learning modules, NCCP workshops, coach mentorship programs, and active coaching and/or instructing.
