Florida's Delanie Gourley stifles from the circle en route to Week 10 USA Softball Collegiate National Player of the Week

OKLAHOMA CITY — After helping her No. 1 ranked Florida Gators sweep an offensively-fueled then-No. 5 Louisiana-Lafayette, Florida's Delanie Gourley (Lakeside, Calif.) has landed the Week 10 USA Softball Collegiate National Player of the Week, the Amateur Softball Association (ASA)/USA Softball announced today. The junior was stellar from the circle, stifling a power-hitting Ragin' Cajun offense to just two hits and one earned run in a 2-0 performance.

"It's an honor to win this weekly award," said Gourley. "I thought I had a good weekend, but I'm never satisfied, as there is always things I can do better. For us as a team, it was a huge weekend for us. When a team comes in ranked No. 5 in the country, you want to play your best game and I feel like we did that this past weekend."

Gourley's performance in game one of the non-conference series was nothing short of outstanding as the junior left-hander gave up just two hits while striking out a career-high tying 13 batters in a complete-game effort. Striking out six batters to begin the game, Gourley helped land Florida its first-ever win over the Ragin' Cajuns in program history. Another standout performance by Gourley in game three of the series helped the Gators secure the weekend sweep. Entering the game in relief of starter Kelly Barnhill in the middle of the second inning, Gourley registered eight strikeouts while allowing just two hits and no runs.

"Thank you to ASA/USA Softball for recognizing Delanie in her efforts to help our team sweep a great Louisiana-Lafayette team this weekend," said Florida Head Coach Tim Walton. "I am so proud of Delanie and what she brings to our team both on and off the field. She really set the tone for us in game one this past Saturday and the rest of our team followed suit. I'm looking forward to her using this past week and this honor to help catapult her and our team to a strong finish of the regular season."

For the week, Gourley was 2-0 in the circle with 21 strikeouts in 11.1 innings pitched while collecting a 0.62 ERA. This marks the first USA Softball Collegiate Player of the Week honors for Gourley and the first for a Florida Gator since Week 2 of the 2015 season.
