Durham, NS - Jason Sanford wins Ricoh Sport Award

DURHAM – Jason Sanford has another prize to put on his mantle.Â
The Durham softball player won the Male Team Athlete of the Year for Softball at the Ricoh Sport Awards ceremony Saturday in Halifax.
Sanford had a staggering 2015 on the softball field, winning a gold medal with his Canadian teammates at the Pan Am Games in Toronto, just weeks after the catcher helped Canada win a world men’s championship.
He also suited up for the Hill United Chiefs in the Amateur Softball Association major men's tournament and the International Softball Congress world championship and added to his collection with two more gold medals. He capped off his summer of 2015 by helping the East Hants Mastodons win silver at the Canadian senior men's championship.
More than 500 members of the Nova Scotia sport community gathered at the World Trade & Convention Centre to see Sport Nova Scotia present the annual Ricoh Sport Awards. The prestigious sport recognition event honoured the achievements of more than 180 athletes, coaches, officials, sponsors, sport associations, and volunteers from across the province.
Stellarton’s Blayre Turnbull had been nominated in the Female Athlete category after winning gold with the national women’s hockey team at the world championships, as well as winning a title with the Calgary Inferno of the Canadian Women’s Hockey League.

• Official of the Year – Marie-Soleil Beaudoin from Halifax (Soccer)
• The Sport Makes a Difference Awards (two winners): Nova Scotia Challenger Baseball and the Antigonish Multisport Pilot
• Sport Nova Scotia Chair Award: Rod Millar from St. Margaret’s Bay
