Two USA Softball National Teams set to begin training camp at the ASA Hall of Fame Complex in Oklahoma City

 

OKLAHOMA CITY – The 2016 USA Softball season begins tomorrow as members of the USA Softball Women's National Team (WNT) and Women's Elite Team begin training camp at the ASA Hall of Fame Complex.  Announced today by the Amateur Softball Association (ASA)/USA Softball, the National Governing Body of Softball in the U.S., athletes on both rosters will train together throughout the week before members of the WNT compete in a series of exhibition games against two National Pro Fastpitch (NPF) franchises on June 16.

Members for both teams will begin the training camp Monday morning at the ASA Hall of Fame Complex.  Highlighting the week is a June 16 matchup between the NPF’s Dallas Charge and Scrap Yard Dawgs, which will be followed by two exhibition games for the WNT against the Dallas Charge and Scrap Yard Dawgs.  Tickets for all three games are now on sale for $20 and can be purchased at ASAUSASoftball.com.  Following the conclusion of the training camp, members of the WNT will then head to Dallas and Houston to continue the exhibition series against the Dallas Charge and Scrap Yard Dawgs on June 17-18.  Links to purchase tickets for the Dallas and Houston exhibition stops can be found at ASAUSASoftball.com.   

 

The WNT will make their first international trip of the season June 23-26 as the team heads to Tokyo and Sendai, Japan for the USA vs. Japan All-Star Series, which will be held at the Tokyo Dome and Shellcom Sendai.  The team will have a brief break before returning to Oklahoma City for the World Cup of Softball XI July 5-10.  From there, the WNT will head to Surrey, B.C., Canada for the World Baseball Softball Confederation (WBSC) Women's World Championship, slated for July 15-24, where they will look to reclaim the No. 1 spot in the world against reigning World Champions Japan.  Rounding out the 2016 season for the WNT is the Japan Cup, which will be held September 2-4.

 

Also hitting the road this summer is the Women's Elite Team, who will be joining the WNT at the World Cup of Softball XI.  The Women's Elite Team will complete their season in Marietta, Ga. July 22-28 for training in conjunction with the USA Softball JO Cup.
