Weather conditions cause changes in World Cup of Softball XI game schedule; remaining games for Friday, July 8 postponed

 

OKLAHOMA CITY---  Oklahoma weather made its presence known today at the ASA Hall of Fame Complex – OGE Energy Field – INTEGRIS Field, as inclement weather caused the postponement of games and a switch up in the World Cup of Softball XI game schedule.  While a few rounds of games were able to be conducted, this evenings matchups have been altered due to the threat of ongoing severe weather conditions.

Games that 3 p.m. games that were in a rain delay have been postponed until Saturday, July 9 at 8:30 a.m., where Japan vs Canada and Netherlands vs China will resume their respective games.  Today’s originally 5:30 p.m. scheduled games have been pushed back until Sunday, July 10 at 9:30 a.m., while the USA Softball Women’s National Team (WNT) 7:30 p.m. matchup against the USA Softball Women’s Elite Team has been cancelled.  The 7:30 p.m. matchup between Australia and China has been postponed until Saturday, July 10 at 9:30 a.m.

 

July 8 Results

 

Canada 4, Mexico 1

Joey Lye had a two-run triple en route to helping Canada to a 4-1 victory over Mexico.  From the circle, Sara Plourde was a workhorse, allowing just one earned run, four hits and no walks while striking out three over six innings of work.

 

Mexico's lone run of the ballgame came in the third inning on an RBI single by Tori Vidales.

 

New Zealand 2, Czech Republic 0

Jennifer Feret kept Czech Republic off the board during her seven innings of work as New Zealand came away with the 2-0 win.  Feret allowed three hits, two walks and struck out two from the circle. 

 

Elizabeth Cooper pushed New Zealand ahead in the sixth inning after the leadoff batter reached on a single.  A stolen base, a wild pitch and a fielder’s choice gave New Zealand their first run of the game.  A leadoff double in the top of the seventh and an RBI single plated the go ahead run.

 

Japan 10, New Zealand 0 (four innings)

Japan jumped out to an early lead on New Zealand and captured a 10-0 victory in four innings. 

 

Sayuri Yamane shut down New Zealand while she was in the circle, allowing just one hit, zero walks and no runs during her three innings of work.

 

Netherlands 6, Philippines 0

The Netherlands jumped out to an early lead over the Philippines and captured a 6-0 victory.  The Netherlands scored five runs in the first three innings to setup the eventual win.  Racking up two RBI for the Netherlands was Van Aalst, who had a 3-for-4 outing.  Eva Voortman was lights out from the circle, striking out nine batters in her five innings of shutout ball and while allowing only two hits.
