Midland, MI - Junior Black Sox go down to Japan

Japanese pitcher Reo Koyama helped his team to 1-0 victory over the New Zealand Junior Black Sox at the World Championships in Midland, USA today.

Koyama was impressive on the mound striking out 13 New Zealand batters in 7 innings. The big swinging New Zealand batters only managed one hit throughout the game after taking apart Israel 17-0 early in the day.

Sam Marley started for New Zealand but ended up on the wrong side of the ledger and was charged with the loss. Marley lasted 3 2/3 innings, walked one, struck out two, and allowed one run. Daniel Chapman replaced Marley to throw a solid 3 1/3 innings giving up 2 hits and taking 5 strikeouts.

The lone run of the game for Japan crossed the plate in the fourth inning on an RBI triple by Takaya Kawaraguchi.

New Zealand have 2 wins from 3 games and will now play Mexico tomorrow morning at 9am.
