The Fawcetts won six of their seven games, with their only loss at the hands of the East Hants Mastadons from Nova Scotia by a 7-0 score in the championship match.
The Kensington Marlins completed the round-robin portion of the tournament, which was staged at Central Field, with one win against New Brunswick’s Canada Games team while losing to the Mastadons and the Nova Scotia Canada Games team.
The host Re/Max Ravens, who are also P.E.I.’s Canada Games entry, also had a 1-2 (won-lost) record. The Ravens’ lone win came against the Taymouth Tigers from New Brunswick.
“Other than cold temperatures and windy conditions the tournament was a success,†said Ravens head coach Mark Quinn. “It was an opportunity for teams to have their first games of the season.â€
Each team was guaranteed four games, and the tournament provided a learning experience for the Ravens.
“For our Canada Games team, we have five new players, four of which have never played competitive fastpitch softball before,†explained Quinn. “Defensively, they did an excellent job, and learned very quickly that hitting at the men’s level will take some adjusting to.â€
