OSHAWA, ONT. - With 2017 softball training camp around the corner, Durham College now knows that they will be heading to Ottawa for the 2017 Canadian Collegiate Softball Association (CCSA) National Championship taking place this October.

As part of Canada's 150th anniversary celebrations, the tournament will be held in Ottawa for the first time ever - with the University of Ottawa playing as hosts.

This will be the Lords eighth straight appearance at the national championship with their best result coming in 2012, when the team reached the national finals and earned a silver medal.

Durham is a regular participant in the annual National Championship, with the Lords' softball program making a quarter-final appearance in Saskatchewan last year. They have had similar finishes in previous years, including a 7th place finish at home in 2015 and a 5th place finish in Calgary in 2014.

The Lords aren't strangers to the podium however as the program earned the bronze medal in back-to-back years in 2010 and 2011 to go along with their silver in 2012.

Seven other schools will have the opportunity to compete for a gold medal in October including Brock University (St. Catharines, Ont.), St. Clair College (Windsor, Ont.), University of Calgary (Calgary, Alta.), University of Ottawa (Ottawa, Ont.), University of Regina (Regina, Sask.), University of Saskatchewan (Saskatoon, Sask.) and Western University (London, Ont.).

With two OCAA gold medals in the last two years, the Lords will head into this season looking to continue a string of strong performances in league action.

The National Championship is set to take place from October 6-8 at the RA Centre in Ottawa, Ont.

The Lords will begin OCAA conference play on Sept. 9 in London against Fanshawe. Durham's home opener is set for Sept. 15 against the Seneca Sting. First pitch at Durham Field is 6 p.m.
