The Alvinston Aces opened the SMMFL Playoff Championship series, with a hard fought win in Inwood in game 1.  

 

The game ended 6-0, but the game seemed a lot closer, as Appin left 11 base runners on base, without getting the big hit. Adam Fletcher had a multi-hit game for Appin, while Jeff Lyons was 1-2 with 2 walks. 

 

Alvinston scored two runs in the first, when Joe Triest scored the opening run when Cole Pavey reached via an error. The second run came home on an RBI infield single by Aaron Stocking. In the third inning, Cole Pavey tripled and eventually scored via an RBI single by Andy Triest. Jamie Shields drove in Stocking who had walked for the 4th run, and a 4-0 lead. Alvinston added another two-spot in the 4th inning, when Rowan Lam walked, stole second base, and and scored via an RBI double by Ryan Chapman. Chapman then crossed home plate on an RBI single by Taylor Degraw. 

 

Taylor Degraw earned the win for Alvinston, while Greg Moore suffered the loss for Appin. Chapman and Lam were both 1 for 2 with 2 walks in the contest, while Joe Triest was 1-2 with 1 walk. Jamie Shields had a multi-hit game in the win, going 2/4 with an RBI. 

 

Game 2 in the series goes Tuesday night in Appin at 8:00pm.
