Showtime

The US citizens are all set to call in sick at work and to ditch school to witness the majestic Opening Day of the 2019 Major League Baseball and for the first time in 50 years, every team was listed to play on the Opening Day. For the period of 7 months, the American baseball fans are going to indulge themselves with the world-class sport starting from March 20th until the last day of September.

Hitters take away most of the attention in baseball, but the defensive lineup is just as important. The defensive team consists of mainly 9 players; the pitcher, catcher, first base, second base, shortstop, third base, right field, center field, and the left field.

Types of Fastballs

The pitcher is responsible to strike out the batter by using different pitching styles. The most exhaustive pitching format used in baseball is the fastball, which is a type known to every pitcher.

This hallmark pitch of baseball begins from 75mph and goes up to more than 100mph. Here are the common types of fastball pitches:

•    Four-Seam

This is the fastest pitch there is and goes straight without any movement with a speed that ranges between 85 to 100 mph.

•    Two-Seam

As the Two-Seam pitch moves downward, it is popularly known as the sinker with a pace of 80 –90 mph.

•    Cutter

The Cutter is a combination of a Slider and a Fastball that goes as fast as 95 mph and breaks away from a right-handed hitter.

•    Splitter

With a speed between 80 to 90 mph, this pitch has an unexpected break down before reaching the plates.

•    Forkball

Confused with the splitter, the Forkball is not as dramatic with a slower (75 – 85 mph) downward momentum.

This is a list of some of the best pitchers currently, to be feared by the hitters in the 2019 MLB from Padres, Astros, the Reds, Indians, and not to forget the Dodgers.

Top 5 Pitchers (2019)

1.    Justin Verlander

The 36 y/o pitcher has the fastest Fastball at present and is a part of the Houston Astros for the 2019 MLB. In a recent minor league match, Justin Verlander single-handedly sent back 10 hitters by striking them out!

So, clearly, the pitcher with a fastball as quick as his is the first pick for the top 5 pitchers this season.

2.    Corey Kubler

Currently, in great form, this 32-year-old Cleveland Indians’ pitcher is another sight the hitters must watch out from.

3.    Robbie Erlin

He may be a surprising addition in the top 5 spots, but this San Diego Padres’ pitcher just signed another one-year agreement with the team and is on the radar of many hitters.

4.    Chris Sale

The Boston Red Sox pitcher, Chris Sale is all set to strike out many hitters this season

5.    Ross Stripling

According to reports, Stripling is a part of the Los Angeles Dodgers’ starting rotation and seals the list of the top 5 pitchers.
