OKLAHOMA CITY — The “Stand Beside Her” tour will roll through the Midwest as the 2020 USA Softball Women’s National Team (WNT) will be in Kansas City, Mo. on May 1. Kansas City joins 17 other cities on the list of announced tour stops that will host the Red, White and Blue as team prepares for the Gold Medal in Tokyo when the sport of softball returns to the Olympic program for the first time since 2008.

“Kansas City is only three hours from home for me,” said USA Softball WNT member, Kelsey Stewart who hails from Wichita, Kan. “I am so excited to have a tour stop where all my friends and family can come watch how this team is gearing up for the Olympics.”

During the Kansas City tour stop, games will be played at the Kansas City Major League Baseball (MLB) Urban Youth Academy (1622 E 17th Terrace, Kansas City, Mo., 64108) with the first matchup slated for 5 p.m. CT and the second game taking place roughly 35 minutes after the conclusion of the first game.

Hosted by USA Softball of Kansas City, tickets for the game will go on sale February 1, 2020 and will be listed on USASoftballKC.com. General Admission tickets will be $15, Baseline Bleachers seating $20, Reserved Infield Bleachers are $25 and Reserved Stadium Seating will be $30. Standing Room Only (SRO) tickets will also be available, with infield SRO for $15 and outfield SRO for $10.

“It has been 12 years since softball was officially part of the summer Olympic Games,” said USA Softball of Kansas City Commissioner, Chuck Hawke. “Myself and our staff at USA Softball of Kansas City are extremely honored to host the 2020 Olympic Team on one of their tour stops here in Kansas City before they head to Japan. The Urban Youth Academy, a premier facility, will serve as the site for the event and we look forward to partnering with them to host this prestigious event!"

With the return of softball to the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games program, the “Stand Beside Her” tour provides much-needed training and competition for the 2020 WNT in their preparation for the Olympic Games while also giving fans a chance to watch the Red, White and Blue in person. Olympic competition will start July 22, 2020 with the Gold Medal Game being played on July 28.

The “Stand Beside Her” tour evokes a powerful message of unity aimed to inspire communities to stand beside HER – the members of the WNT, America and the future generation of female athletes.

“The Kansas City MLB Urban Youth Academy is honored to be selected as one of the venues for the Olympic Softball Team’s ‘Stand Beside Her’ tour,” said Kansas City MLB Urban Youth Academy Vice President, Kyle Vena. “One of the Academy’s missions is to serve as a site where Urban, Suburban and Rural families can unite through amateur baseball and softball. Hosting the 2020 Olympic Softball Team in advance of the Tokyo Games will give us a tremendous platform to accomplish that mission.”

Additional stops for the “Stand Beside Her” tour will be announced at a later date. For more information on the “Stand Beside Her” tour, please visit StandBesideHerTour.com.
