USA SOFTBALL ANNOUNCES BOARD OF DIRECTORS DECISION REGARDING 2020 NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS BASED ON COVID-19 RESTRICTIONS |  USA Softball will move forward in hosting 2020 National Championships. USA SOFTBALL SPORT DEVELOPMENT SERIES EPISODE 2 | On Wednesday, June 10 at 2 p.m. CT, USA Softball will air the second episode of the Sport Development Series by bringing a panel together to discuss Strength Training & Recovery for youth athletes and officials.

USA Softball will be fielding questions for the panelists that will be addressed at the end of each panel. If you are interested in having a question answered, please submit those to cwarren@usasoftball.com

 

 

STATE OF THE SPORT | USA Softball President Rodney Cobb and CEO Craig Cress discussed the COVID-19 pandemic and the impact it has on the sport of softball across the United States.

"I am cautiously optimistic about things changing and turning around for the better. We still have some challenges ahead of us but I think this organization and the local associations are ready for those challenges." – President Cobb

"We will do our best to try to determine what the new normal is and what the sport of softball can do to help .... We're looking to get to that new normal in being aggressive but responsible when we get there [while focusing on] how we determine to do things and what's best for our participants in all areas of our sport." – Craig Cress

BACK TO THE BALLPARK | USA Softball Managing Director of Membership Services Rich Cress and Director of Umpires Kevin Ryan reviewed 'Back to the Ballpark' guidelines and recommendations for USA Softball participants, event hosts, and fans based on COVID-19 restrictions.

"We knew that eventually softball would be back and that we needed to get a plan in place to help people out and make [the return to play] as smooth as possible....Our two main focuses in creating [the Back to the Ballpark Guidelines] is the safety of everyone involved and protecting the integrity of the game." – Rich Cress

USA SOFTBALL SPORT DEVELOPMENT SERIES EPISODE 1 | USA Softball officially launched the Sport Development Series, a 10-topic series that will be aired bi-weekly with a focus on educating participants at all levels of softball through social media and online.

In episode 1, USA Softball focused on Mental Health Awareness and brought together members of the softball community to discuss mental health and various resources.

KIM NG ADDED TO USA SOFTBALL BOARD OF DIRECTORS | Currently serving as the Senior Vice President, Baseball & Softball Development for Major League Baseball, Ng's appointment comes following the addition of an independent director to the USA Softball Board of Directors.

USA SOFTBALL OF OREGON PAIRS WITH FASTPITCH CARES NONPROFIT ORGANIZATION TO GIVE BACK | After two young softball players were diagnosed with a severe illness and brought back to health at the Doernbecher Hospital (Portland, Ore.), head coach Sue Oran set out to give back to the local hospital with the creation of Fastpitch Cares.

Fastpitch Cares has since raised and donated more than $230,000 to Doernbecher Hospital, $85,000 to Dr. Albert Chi of Oregon Health and Sciences University (OHSU), and has also benefited Dr. Chi and OHSU with the purchasing of ventilators during the COVID-19 pandemic.
