Council Members gather in Oklahoma City for 90th USA Softball Annual Council Meeting

OKLAHOMA CITY – Oklahoma City, Okla. will welcome USA Softball Council Members and guests from across the country as the National Governing Body of Softball in the United States hosts its 90th Annual Council Meeting at the Oklahoma City Convention Center. Held October 23-27, USA Softball administrators, players and tournament hosts will participate in a series of meetings to evaluate the needs of the organization, award 2023 National Championships and discuss proposed rule and code changes for all divisions of USA Softball.

In effort to provide a safe experience for all who plan to attend, the USA Softball Board of Directors issued a mask mandate for the Annual Council Meeting in addition to encouraging attendees to complete a daily Heath Pass Screening through the CLEAR app.

The Annual Meeting kicks off on Saturday as USA Softball will honor nine individuals with the 40th Annual Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony and Banquet recognizing the following inductees: Phil Gutierrez (Meritorious Service), Lovieanne Jung (Fast Pitch Player), Terry Muck (Fast Pitch Player), Bill Pfeiffer (Fast Pitch Player), Doug Roberson (Slow Pitch Player), Carl Rose (Slow Pitch Player), Natasha Watley (Fast Pitch Player), Cecil Whitehead (Slow Pitch Player), and Curtis Williams (Slow Pitch Player). Concluding the Class of 2020 National Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony will be the announcement of the 2022 National Hall of Fame Inductees, which will be voted on by the Hall of Fame Selection Committee earlier that day.​

The first General Council Session will take place on Sunday, October 24 where all Council Members and guests will hear from USA Softball President Rodney Cobb (USA Softball of Texas Commissioner) and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Craig Cress on the state of USA Softball. Additionally, Council Members will have the opportunity to go over all Rule, Code and Procedural Manual Proposals for the 2022 season in detail before voting takes place on Tuesday, Oct. 26.​

The annual Trade Show will be held on Monday, Oct. 25 and will feature exhibits from cities bidding on USA Softball National Championships, equipment manufacturers, softball suppliers as well as additional services or products. Making an appearance for a meet-and-greet at this year’s Trade Show will be members from the 2020 U.S. Olympic Softball Team that claimed the silver medal at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games.​

The Wilson Awards Luncheon, which honors USA Softball Council Members for their ‘Years of Service’ and USA Softball National Championship sites, will be held on Tuesday, Oct. 26 followed by the final General Council Session where all code, procedural manual and rule changes will be announced. The USA Softball Council Members will also decide which cities will host the 2023 National Championships, which is one of the most anticipated decisions made each year. Additionally, Council Members will vote to elect the President-Elect for USA Softball as two candidates are vying for the position of President of USA Softball: Dave Devine (USA Softball of Dallas/Ft. Worth Commissioner) and Darrin Duistermars (USA Softball of Michigan Commissioner).​
