 2022 WBSC Women’s Pan American Championship - Game 9

Guatemala City, Guatemala - Canada was the home team for the first matchup of the day, a battle with Puerto Rico. Morgan Rackel (Calgary, Alta.) got the start for Team Canada in the circle as Canada won the toss and elected to be home team.

Rackel allowed a leadoff slap single to the pitcher but nothing more as she retired the next three batters on two fly outs and a ground out.

Canada put the first two runners on as Larissa Franklin (Maple Ridge, B.C.) reached on an error and Kelsey Harshman (Delta, B.C.) walked to start the game. Erika Polidori (Brantford, Ont.) had a huge 2-out single that scored both runners and put the Canadian side ahead 2-0.  Emma Entzminger (Victoira, B.C.) promptly hit a laser over the right field fence for a home run to increase the Canada lead to 4-0.

In the top of the second, Rackel worked around two bloop singles and recorded her first two strikeouts of the game to keep the Canada lead at 4.

Another error in the bottom of the third put a runner on for Canada and they once again cashed in when Alysen Febrey hit a 2 out, 2-run home run to right field to push the Canadian lead to 6-0.

Rackel was sharp again in the top of the third allowing only a bunt single before she retired the side.  Jorde Chartrand (Weyburn, Sask.) entered the game in relief of Rackel in the top of the fourth inning. She worked a perfect inning retiring all three batters she faced, two via the fly out and one on a ground ball to third base.

In the bottom of the fourth inning, Kianna Jones (Surrey, B.C.)  took a 2-0 change up and deposited it over the left field fence as Team Canada increased their lead to 7, bring the mercy rule into play.

Chartrand worked a 1-2-3 fifth inning as she retired the final two batters by strikeout to end the top of the 5th and the game as Team Canada won by a final score of 7-0.
