U.S. Men's National Team downs Cuba 8-4 to improve to 3-1 record at WBSC Men's Softball World Cup

AUCKLAND, New Zealand – The U.S. Men's National Team (MNT) improved to 3-1 today at the World Baseball Softball Confederation (WBSC) Men's Softball World Cup after claiming a 8-4 victory over Cuba. Leading the U.S. offense in the win was Jonathan Lynch with a perfect 2-for-2 performance at the plate including a two-run blast in the bottom of the fourth inning. Also contributing to Team USA's eight-hit performance was Zac Shaw with two hits followed by Blaine Milheim, Nick Mullins, Erick Ochoa and Codi Pannebecker with one hit apiece. The U.S. pitching staff of Jon Gwizdala, Javier Caballero and Brad Kilpatrick combined in the seven-inning win with Gwizdala setting the tone through the first two innings before Caballero entered for two innings of relief capped with three innings from Kilpatrick to seal the victory for the Eagles.

Team USA will take on world-ranked No. 1 Argentina tomorrow, Nov. 30 at 1:30 p.m. NZST/Nov. 29 at 6:30 p.m. CT for its final matchup of Opening Round. Following the conclusion of tomorrow's games, final standings will be available on wbsc.org.

The top three teams from each Group will advance to Super and Placement Round where they will battle it out to determine who will go head-to-head in the World Championship Final on Friday, Dec, at 4 p.m. NZST (Dec. 3 at 9 pm. CT). The third and fourth-place teams will compete for the bronze medal earlier that day.
