U19International Men’s Softball Championship – Day 2 Results
 
(Charlottetown,PEI) – After Day 2 of the U19 International Men’s Softball Championship,Saskatchewan and New Zealand are the only undefeated teams with 3-0 record.
 
NorthwestTerritories 8, Newfoundland and Labrador 5
TheNorthwest Territories improved to 2-0, scoring four runs in the bottom of thefirst and three in the fourth on route to an 8-5 win. Kris Sangris led Team NWTwith three hits, while Chad Fink (3 RBI), Andy Williams (1 RBI) and Tyler Kuntz(2 RBI) each added two. Andrew Gale had two hits for Newfoundland and Labrador,while six other players each added single hits. Fink also earned the win in thepitcher’s circle for NWT, spreading out five runs and eight hits whilerecording seven strikeouts.
 
Alberta7, Prince Edward Island 5
Ina very even match-up, Alberta scored two runs in the top of the seventh inningto tie the game 4-4 and force extra innings. After both teams exchanged runs inthe eighth, Alberta scored two runs in the top of the ninth to come away withthe 7-5 victory. Brayden Arcand registered three hits, one run batted in andthree runs scored for Alberta, while Bryn Redhead, Trevor Aime, Adam Findlayand Steven Normand all added RBI’s. Jeff MacIsaac was the key contributor forPEI, driving in three runs. Steven Normand picked up the win for Alberta,allowing only one run in four innings of relief.
 
Manitoba7, United States 14
Afterbeing held to only one hit on Day 1, the United States saw their bats wake uptoday as they pounded 12 hits that led to 14 runs to even their record to 1-1.Practically all of the offence came from three batters, as Chris Norris andMitch Warne each drove in four runs, while Gentry Mitchell added three of hisown. Jason Fehr led Manitoba at the plate with a hit and three runs batted in.
 
Ontario17, New Brunswick 0
Ontariopitcher Brendan Roach fired a one-hitter through five innings, striking outeight batters as Ontario defeated New Brunswick. Eleven Ontario hittersregistered hits, with seven of them driving in runs, led by David Pratt whodrove in three. Kristian Knapp, Dan Mitchell and Robert Kay all produced tworuns. Tanner Agnew was the one who broke the no-hit bid for New Brunswick.
 
NewZealand 3, Quebec 2
NewZealand had a 2-0 lead until the top of the sixth when Quebec tied the game upat two. However, the Kiwis used more late-inning heroics and scored a run inthe bottom of the seventh to improve their record to 3-0. Aaron Kuru led NZ atthe plate with two hits and a run batted in, while Curtis Huata, Joshua Harbrowand Bradley Young all had base hits and scored. Jeason Boucher had the two-runhit for Quebec, while Olivier Patry (two hits) and Raphael Aubin are the onlyother players to register hits. Saan Tuoro earned the win for NZ, pitching twoinnings of relief allowing one hit and a walk. Jonathan Prevost was thehard-luck losing pitcher.
 
Alberta4, Northwest Territories 2
Albertascored two runs in both the second and third innings as they defeated theNorthwest Territories 4-2. Brayden Arcand and Tyrel Majeski each collected twohits for Alberta, while Majeski, Bryn Redhead and Alden Tallman each drove in arun. Andy Williams had the big hit for NWT, driving in both runs on a hit inthe bottom of the fifth inning. Michael Friedrich picked up the complete gamewin for Alberta, allowing two runs on seven hits with six strikeouts.
 
Saskatchewan4, Nova Scotia 1
Ina battle between two undefeated teams, Saskatchewan scored three runs in thetop of the first and never looked back, improving their record to 3-0 with awin over Nova Scotia. 2008 JMNT player Devon McCullough cracked a three-runhomerun in the top of the first, while Jesse Osika drove in a run in the fifthfor Saskatchewan. Trent MacDonald drove in Travis Cavenaugh in the bottom ofthe first, but that was all the offence that Nova Scotia was able to produce.McCullough also earned the complete-game win in the pitcher’s circle, allowingonly three hits and two walks with eight strikeouts.
 
PrinceEdward Island 3, Newfoundland and Labrador 4
Inyet another nail-biting game for PEI, Newfoundland and Labrador scored all fourruns in the three final innings, including one in the bottom of the seventh toearn the win. PEI opened the scoring with two runs in the top of the fourth,but Newfoundland scored one in the fifth and two in the sixth to take a 3-2lead into the seventh. PEI tied the game in the top of the seventh, setting upthe dramatic finish. Alex Power drove in two runs for Newfoundland, while JasonWalsh produced three hits. Eight of PEI’s starting nine players registered onehit, with Jeff MacIsaac, Nicco Coughlin and Pat Thompson each driving in arun.  
 
BritishColumbia 5, New Zealand 10
NewZealand scored two runs in each of the first five innings, as their consistencyled to a 10-5 victory over BC. British Columbia scored four runs in the fourthinning and added another in the fifth, but was not able to make the game anycloser. Matthew Williams and Bradley Young each drove in two runs for NewZealand, while Curtis Huata and Joshua Harbrow each added two hits and scoredtwo runs. Jesse Grieve led BC at the plate with three hits and an RBI, whileRobert Byron had two hits with a run batted in. Jack Fletcher picked up the winfor NZ even though he allowed four runs, while Jordan Waterhouse kept BC atbay, allowing only one run in 3 2/3 innings.
 
Keymatchups on Day 3 include the Northwest Territories (2-1) taking on bothBritish Columbia (2-1) and New Zealand (3-0) in one pool, while Ontario (1-1)will take on both Nova Scotia (2-1) and USA (1-1) in the other pool.
