U19International Men’s Softball Championship – Day 3 Results

U19International Men’s Softball Championship – Day 3 Results
 
(Charlottetown,PEI) – Both Saskatchewan (4-0) and New Zealand (5-0) were able to remain undefeatedin their respective pools heading into the final day of round-robin play.
 
NewBrunswick 3, USA 15
TheAmericans produced 15 hits and scored 15 runs, including 9 in the fifth andfinal inning to power past New Brunswick. USA pitcher Kevin Black earned thewin in the pitcher’s circle and was also a major contributor to the offence,going two-for-four with three runs batted in. Robby Black added three hits andan RBI, while Chris Norris, Mike Hayes and Jason Ashby all had a pair of hits.Justin Mazerolle, Tanner Agnew and Jesse Mckibbon each had a hit for NewBrunswick.
 
BritishColumbia 3, Northwest Territories 2
Ina very tight ballgame, British Columbia came back with three runs in the bottomof the seventh inning to steal a win away from Team NWT. Robert Byron had a hitand an RBI, while Darcy Walushka, Ben Edgington, Brett Richards and MikeWysicki each added a hit as well. Kirk Sangris led NWT with two hits, whileTravis Connor added one hit and a run batted in. Aaron King picked up thecomplete-game win for BC, while Travis Conner was saddled with the loss.
 
Newfoundlandand Labrador 7, Quebec 5
Newfoundlandand Labrador scored four runs in the top of the first and added two more in thefifth and one in the sixth on their way to defeating Quebec. Shane Bolandpicked up the complete-game win in the pitcher’s circle, forcing plenty of outsthroughout the game. Alex Power led Newfoundland at the plate with two hits,while seven other players added a hit each. Raphael Aubin and Jeason Bouchercontinued to lead Quebec at the plate, each registering two hits with a runbatted in.
 
Ontario4, Nova Scotia 2
Ontarioused a three run fourth inning to get by Nova Scotia, as Ian Wallwork pitchedall seven innings allowing eight hits and striking out eight batters to pick upthe win. The Ontario offence only mustered six hits, with Wallwork and RobertKay each hitting two, but that was enough to produce four runs. Myles Coldwellcollected three hits for Nova Scotia, while starting pitcher Patrick Averyadded two others.
 
Saskatchewan4, Manitoba 2
Saskatchewanscored three runs in the bottom of the first and held on the rest of the way,as Brock Perry held Manitoba to two runs and four hits over six innings beforeDevon McCullough came in to pitch the seventh for the save. Kalyn Robinson wentthree-for-three for Saskatchewan, while Jesse Osika and Marc Bonin each added ahit and an RBI. Ovide Monais Jr. had a hit and an RBI for Manitoba, whileClarke Ross, Carlson Murdock and Kyle Hamilton each added one hit.
 
NorthwestTerritories 0, New Zealand 2
Oneof the tournament’s biggest surprises, the Northwest Territories fell justshort in this one, outhitting New Zealand but coming out on the short end of a2-0 decision. New Zealand pitcher Saan Tuoro out-dueled Chad Fink from Team NWTin the pitcher’s circle, as they battle all game long. Jack Fletcher crackedtwo hits for NZ, while Bradley Young and Kane Herbert each had a hit and anRBI. Chad Fink led NWT at the plate with two hits, while Kirk Sangris, KyleCharney and Travis Connor had the other hits.
 
Alberta1, Quebec 4
Quebecgot into the win column of the standings by holding Alberta to only one run onroute to a 4-1 win. Jonathan Roy and Olivier Bourassa each drove in a run for Quebec,while Charles Lemelin Ruel and Jeason Boucher each chipped in with a pair ofhits. Brayden Arcand and Tyrel Makeski each collected two hits for Alberta.Jonathan Roy also took the in the pitcher’s circle, allowing only one run onseven hits with six strikeouts.
 
Ontario5, United States 1
Ontarioscored four runs in the fifth inning, and held USA to only one run to earntheir second win of the day. Kristian Knapp went two-for-two with an RBI, whileRobert Kay also added two hits. Dan Mitchell and Jackson Ryan are the onlyother Ontario hitters to produce hits. USA received two hits apiece from bothMitch Warne and Ryan Ware.
 
NewZealand 7, Prince Edward Island 1
NewZealand scored six runs in the top of the second as they cruised to a 5-0record with a 7-1 win over PEI. Josh Gettins drove in three runs for NZ, whileBradley young drove in two others. Aaron Kuru also collected two hits andscored two runs. PEI only managed to produce three hits off NZ pitcher JordanWaterhouse, including a solo homerun by James Johnston. Waterhouse struck outeight batters, earning the win in the pitcher’s circle.
