Women’s National Softball Team Pool Coaches Named

Women’s National Softball Team Pool Coaches Named
 
(Ottawa,ON) – Softball Canada is pleased to announce that five coaches have been added to the Women’s National Team Coaching Pool. Dave Paetkau (Aldergrove, BC), Melissa Basilio (Pickering, ON) and Glen Boles (St.Catharines, ON) will serve as assistant coaches to Head Coach Mark Smith at the helm of the Canadian Women’s softball team next summer, while Alison Bradley (Pinkerton, ON) and Shan McDonald (Scarborough, ON) will also remain inthe Pool.
 
Dave Paetkau will join the Coaches Pool for the first time, but runs and owns his own softball academy in British Columbia. He played for the Senior Men’sNational team for 8 years, winning an ISF World Championship Gold medal in 1992 and a Silver in 1996, and Pan American Gold medals in 1991 and 1995. He was also the head coach of the 2005 BC Canada Summer Games Men’s Team.
 
Melissa Basilio was an assistant coach of the 2007 Canadian Junior Women’s National Team that participated in the ISF VIII Junior Women’s World Championship in Enschede, Netherlands, and was also an assistant coach of the Senior Women’s National Team in 2009. She has served as an assistant coach at Winthrop University since 2005.
 
Glenn Boles has been involved with Softball Canada’s National Teams since 1989,serving as an assistant coach and video coach for the all four national teams.He was previously an assistant coach for the Senior Women’s National Team from 2001 to 2004, and most recently served as an assistant coach of the Senior Men’s National Team (2006-2009) and the 2009 U16 Girl’s team.
 
Alison Bradley served as the Team Leader of the 2009 U16 Girl’s Team after spending eight years as a player on the Senior Women’s National. Atwo-time Olympian (2004 and 2008), Bradley has shifted her focus towards coaching, currently working towards her Level 3 Certification and coaching in Las Vegas.
 
Shan McDonald was also recently involved as an Assistant Coach of the 2009 U16Girl’s team, and also has experience as Head Coach of the Chinese Women’s National Team, leading them to the a 4th place finish at the 2004 Olympic Summer Games in Athens.
 
The Senior Women’s National Team will hold Evaluation Camps in Brampton, ON on May 22-23, 2010 and Surrey, BC on June 5-6, 2010. A final Selection Campwill be held from June 7-11, 2010. The schedule for the 2010 season has yet tobe finalized, but the ISF Women’s World Championship will certainly beheld (dates and location to be determined).
