Rick McDonald Memorial Fastball League

                   JONATHAN CONTIN PITCHES A 1-0  3 HITTER GEM
 
                                                                                              Pickerel River Cardinals on the move of late picked up a key victory on Wednesday night in Whitefish just in time just before their weekend tournament in HJuntsville. The Cardinals were led by their ace Jonathan Contin(3-4) who went the distance not giving up a single run on three base hits while  striking out 9 Garson Hounds and issuing but 2 base on balls . For their part the combined duo of veteran Doug Foley (0-0) and Gary Lamothe (2-4 , suffered the loss his 4th) gave up but the single run in the fifth (earned) on 7 hits while striking out 6 Cardinals and issuing 3 base on balls. Mike Aho led the way for Pickerel (winning run scored) going 2 for 3 at the plate while Shane Bene and Todd Parsons both hit 1 for 2 in a losing cause for the Hounds.
                                                                                               In the nightcap , the Parry Island Hawks got the better of the slumping Whitefish Lake First Nation Steelers 8 to 4 . Matt Tobobundung (3-2) went the distance in collecting his third victory of the season . Matt gave up  4 runs (all earned) on 6 hits while fanning 13  the best by a pitcher in a single game this season surpassing the 11 established by Jonathon Contin Monday night in Azilda against these same Whitefish Steelers. Matt Tobobundung helped his own cause and led the Hawks with a perfect 3 for 3 at the dish ( 2 doubles , 2 runs scored , 2 runs batted in ) with teammate Lance Curry hitting 2 for 3 (double , triple ,2 runs batted in ) . Danny Nootchtai (0-3) started for  the Steelers and suffered his third mound loss of the season with veteran Al Guenette (0-2) taking over in the fifth frame . Both pitchers combined to give up 8 runs (all earned) on  10 Hawks hits while striking but one batter and issuing one single base on balls. Justin Nootchtai (double , triple , run scored , 2 runs batted in ) hit 2 for 3 in a losing cause for the Steelers.
                                                                                                 Play will resume on Thursday night in Garson at the Lorne Brady Memorial Park when the  Pickerel River Cardinals take on the still undefeated Sudbury North Stars (11-0) at 7 PM followed by the nightcap under the lights between the visiting Parry Island Hawks and the home Garson Hounds.

  PICKEREL RIVER CARDINALS DEFEAT THE PREVIOUSLY UNDEFEATED NORTH STARS
 
 
                                                                        The Sudbury North Stars 11-0  undefeated record since the start of the season back in May came to an end Thursday night in Garson at the Lorne Brady Memorial Park . Behind the excellent 7 hit pitching of Jonathan Contin (now 4 and 4 ) the Cardinals became the first team to defeat the first place North Stars by a close score of 4-3 . Contin also struck out 10 batters  to give him a league leading 52 .The Cardinals are now on a three game winning streak . John Ainslie (8-1) suffered his first mound loss of the season giving up 4 runs ( 3 earned) on 7 hits while striking out 10 batters and issuing one base on balls . Ed "Shaq" Jr Panamick led all hitters for the Cardinals going 3 for 4 (run scored , one run batted in ) while Moe Coutu hit 3 for 4 ( double , two runs scored , one run batted in ) in a losing cause for the North Stars ..
                                                                         In the nightcap , the Parry Island Hawks gave up five runs in the opening frame and never recovered enough even with a mild surge in the middle innings losing 10-6 to the Garson Hounds . Gary Lamothe ( 3-4) picked up his third victory of the season going all the way in giving up 6 runs ( 3 unearned ) on 6 hits while striking out 10 Hawks and issuing but one single base on balls .Percy Tobobungung  (losing pitcher at 0-2) started the game but gave up five runs in the opening frame and giving way to Matt Tobobungung (3-2) who pitched the rest of the way giving up also five runs ( 2 unearned . Both pitchers combined to give up 7 hits  while striking out 8 batters and issuing five base on balls . Todd Parson of the Hounds led all hitters with a 2 for 3 performance at the plate ( triple , 2 runs scored , 2 base on balls and one run batted in ) while Matt Tobobungung hit one for three in a losing cause for the Hawks ..
                                                                        Play resumes on Monday night at Azilda with a doubleheader when the Whitefish Steelers battle the North Stars at 7 PM which will be followed by the  Pickerel River Cardinals facing the Garson Hounds at 9 PM under the lights. Once again good luck to all the teams playing in the 36th annual Huntsville Men's Fastball Tournament this weekend and special good luck to our league four team North Stars ,Cardinals , Hawks and Steelers.
                                                                        On a more sorrowful note , it is with our most deepest sympathies that we announce the passing of Diana Perry  at the age of 53 early Thursday morning .. She was the sister of one of our men from the blue crew , Chris Peters .Once again our thoughts are with you and your family Chris.
