Durham College off to the semi's at Nationals after a perfect start

2012 Canadian Collegiate Softball Association National Championship

Game One – Durham defeated Regina 12-0

Game Two – Durham defeated Lethbridge 5-1

Game Three – Durham defeated Western 4-1

REGINA, SK – The Durham College women's fastball team was perfect on day one of the 2012 Canadian Collegiate Softball Association (CCSA) National Championship as they went 3-0 in Regina, SK.

The Lords defeated the University of Regina 12-0 in their opening match of the championship and then went on to defeat the University of Lethbridge 5-1 and Western University 4-1.

Durham finishes in first place in round robin play and have earned a bye to the semi-finals on Sunday evening.

GAME ONE – Durham defeated Regina 12-0 (Five Innings)

An eight-run explosion in the second inning boosted Durham to a 12-0 win in five innings over the University of Regina.

Janna Hagan went 3-for-3 at the plate for Durham as she had singles in the first, second, and third innings. Samantha Officer was also perfect as she was 2-for-2 with two runs and two RBI's.

Lords starting pitcher Kristine Miles kept the University of Regina off the scoreboard for all five innings as she allowed only two hits while striking out three.

Sarah Campbell of Regina ended up on the wrong side of the pitching decision, charged with her first loss of the year. She lasted just 1.1 innings and allowed four runs before begin pulled.

GAME TWO – Durham defeated Lethbridge 5-1

Melissa Semeniuk had three extra base hits as Durham took home a 5-1 victory over the University of Lethbridge in seven innings.

The Lords infielder doubled in the first inning and tripled in the fifth and seventh innings, as she scored two runs and drove in another. Officer had her second multi-hit game of the championship as she went 2-for-3.

Lydia Kalbfleisch picked up the win for Durham. Kalbfleisch allowed one earned run, three hits and one walk while striking out two over seven innings of work.

Michelle Zeiverink was charged with the loss as she pitched the complete game

GAME THREE – Durham defeated Western 4-1

Durham was able to pull out a 4-1 victory over the Western Mustangs in their third game of the day at the national championship.

With both teams sporting 2-0 records, the winner of the game would earn first place and a bye to the national semi-finals.

Coach Nemish turned to Kayla MacLean for the start, who pitched the complete game allowing seven hits and only one Mustang run. The Whitby native struck out nine in the win.

2011 national championship all-star Janna Hagan went 2-for-3 at the plate while Semeniuk added another triple.

Caitlyn Morton led the Lords with two RBI's in the game.

Stacie Cox picked up the loss for Western on the mound, as she allowed four runs on six Lords hits.
