MARKHAM, Ont. – Durham College took home plenty of hardware at the Ontario Colleges Athletic Association (OCAA) women’s fastball championship banquet on Thursday night hosted by Seneca College winning two major awards.

Durham third baseman Melissa Semeniuk (Ajax) earned the OCAA's top batter award for 2012. She set a new regular season record with 31 hits, resulting in a .544 batting average. She drove in 24 runs, and scored 20 times.

Semeniuk also earned all-star recognition along with teammate Samantha Officer. Officer had a great freshman season for the green and gold as she batted .562 with 18 runs and 12 RBI’s. Both players also won all-star awards at the national championship in Regina.

The Lords offence was dominant this season as they set new OCAA records in total runs (177), total hits (198) and runs batted in (142). A good omen for the Lords is that the previous records were set by Durham teams that went on to win the OCAA championship.

On the defensive side, Lords ace Kristine Miles (Whitby) was named the OCAA's top pitcher. Her stellar 1.71 ERA resulted in a 5-0 record. Miles struck out 36 in 28.2 innings of work. Control was never an issue, as she walked just four batters.

Jessica O’Quinn of Humber won the player of the year award while teammate Natalie Stoberman was the freshman of the year.

The 2012 OCAA Women's Fastball Championship takes place Friday and Saturday at Seneca College in North York, Ont. The Lords will open up against the hosting Seneca Sting at 1 p.m.
