WAYNE WELLS Inducted into the Peterborough & District Sports Hall of Fame

Wayne Wells had an outstanding career spanning 30 years; playing locally, provincially, nationally and internationally. He played close to 25 years in the Peterborough Men's Softball League (PMSL – City League) as a hard throwing right handed hurler who dominated on the mound and at the plate. Wayne won a record 13 City League Championships and is a 6-time finalist. In one particular span of dominance from 1995-2006, he played in only 9 of those 12 years and won the City League Championship all 9 years. He has an impressive list of league awards – regular season MVP’s, play-off MVP’s, batting average awards and the Dave Leether "Mr. Softball" Memorial Award. In league play of other cities where Wayne occasionally played (Cobourg, Oshawa, East York), he won their league championships 8 times.

Provincially, Wayne has won 16 Ontario Amateur Softball Association (OASA) provincial medals; 7 Gold and 9 Silver. Competed in three Canadian Senior Men's National Championships for Ontario (requested to play in other years as well) and is a two-time gold medal winner at the Canadian Masters Fastball Championships.

At the International Softball Congress (ISC) World Tournaments, Wayne pitched for teams in 9 consecutive years. In 2008 at the age of 48, was a finalist in the ISC II Tournament of Champions and in 2009 was rated the #1 ranked intermediate team in the world by the International Softball Congress executive committee heading into ISC II Tournament of Champions. Wayne is a two-time gold medal winner at the ISC +50 Legends Tournament. He Played for United States teams based out of New York, Massachusetts, Pennsylvania, Wisconsin, California, Florida and Texas. Other North American sanctioned championships included winning the gold medal in the North American Fastpitch Association World Series, where he also received the tournament’s Most Valuable Pitcher Award. He organized, qualified and pitched in Peterborough’s only team appearances in the Canadian Senior Men’s Championship and the ISC World Tournaments.

Wayne was recently inducted into the Ontario Masters Fastball Hall of Fame.

In the words of former Peterborough City League President Brian McFadden, "Other teams know they have to beat him to win the league. He doesn't know how to spell the word lose." Wayne has a record that will be hard to beat.
