Indians defeated ST Thomas tonight 8 -1 in 6 innings

Alvinston ON

DEFEAT SECOND PLACE STORM
The Alvinston Indians were at home on Thursday evening, to host the second place St. Thomas Storm.  A win for St. Thomas would tighten up the race for first place in the St. Thomas & District Major Fastball League.

The Indians sent Jeff Lyons to the mound, while St. Thomas countered with ace Dan Beecroft.  It was a night for the hitters, as the strike zone was tight, and both pitchers allowed several runners to reach base early in the contest, as both teams left the bases loaded in one of the first two innings.

Alvinston scored early with three runs in the bottom of the first inning.  Joe Triest was hit by a pitch, and Craig and Jeff Lyons both followed with singles, as Jeff drove home Joe Triest for the game's opening run.  With one out, Ryan Chapman then doubled to score both Lyons', for a 3-0 Alvinston lead.

In the top of the third inning, St. Thomas scored a run when Kevin Lynch led off with a walk, Matt Lynch then singled putting runners on first and second, and then an RBI groundout by Jeff Ingram with one out, plated Kevin Lynch, for what would end up being St. Thomas' only run in the contest.

In the fourth inning, Alvinston put the game out of reach for the Storm, when Devin Triest led off with a homerun over the centrefield fence.  Andy Triest then singled and stole second base, advanced to third via a groundball out, and then scored on a pass ball.  Craig Lyons then singled and with two out, Aaron Stocking clubbed a first pitch offering over the left field fence, for a two run homerun.

With a 7-1 lead, Lyons kept St. Thomas off the scoresheet, with some strong Alvinston defence behind him.  And then in the bottom of the sixth, pinch hitter Travis Pavey ended the game with a solo homerun of his own, making the final score 8-1 in favour of the Indians.

Every Alvinston starting player recorded at least a hit in the contest which ultimately helped them to win this game, as well as the three long balls. Jeff Lyons was the winning pitcher, allowing 1 earned run on 3 hits and 6 free passes, while striking out 4.

Alvinston improved to 15-1 on the season, and they travel back to St. Thomas on Monday evening, for what will be a much different contest, with St. Thomas on home turf in Fingal at 8pm.
