e-mail problems - Server being moved by webbox

July 29, 2014

Richmond Hill, ON

When I left beautiful downtown Erie, PA on Sunday morning, it appeared that my email server, www.webbox.com was back to normal. It was not!

When I arrived home mid-afternoon I was pleasantly surprised with visitors, four wonderful grand children, and oh yes, their parents too. What a home coming! The last of them left about 10pm and it was 11pm before I got my desk top PC fired up after a weekend of rest. TILT! My webbox would not let me download my email. Apparently a ton of email came in during the day and put me over the webbox limit that I did not even know existed. It appears that I am limited to only 2,000 emails in my main mailbox.

This morning I got onto the server and started deleting everything I did not recognize as legitimate email.

I deleted almost a thousand. They are gone, they will never be opened. I hope they were all spam. They looked like it.  If they were about fastball and had attachments, they are gone. By now I am sure all the regulars know we prefer to get ALL fastball attachments at aldoran42@yahoo.com

I may never get caught up on my email from this disastrous weekend of foul ups by webbox.

If your Fastball news did not get posted, my apologies.  If you sent me a ton of wayTooBig photos for posting, forget it, they are gone.

Erie was a great weekend of ball. Great fastball town and great fans of the game there. Glad to be home though and hopefully our email is sorted out for good.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Update Sunday morning 7:30am, webbox appears back to normal but we are way behind in reading the tons of emails that came in Saturday.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Update Saturday night 8pm - webbox.com is totally down! No email for me until it comes back up. You know the drill, SEND IT TO MY  aldoran42@yahoo.com

Update Saturday, July 26, 2014

The problem continues with our email server at webbox.com - mail is slow, very slow in coming in and even more so going out. A few have taken our advice and are cc'ing our alternate email address at aldoran42@yahoo.com Thank you for that.

On top of the above problem, we are in a hotel for the weekend and the reception on their wireless is painfully slow and with a number of tournaments going on we are not even close to getting to all the emails and tweets being sent our way. Catch up next week? Maybe!

Now, to put the icing on the cake, a txt from Rogers saying the 200mb I purchased for the weekend trip on my crappy Blackberry to Erie is almost used up!  That in well under 24 hours! Just too much info coming in so I am moving to Airplane Mode, all incoming traffic is OFF, for now.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

A few days ago we noticed some of our outgoing email was taking six or more hours to be sent.

We also had a lot of problems downloading our incoming email. When we inquired we were told that webbox is moving their servers. One would think this would take a day or so but this has dragged on for days.

TODAY THEIR SIGN ON PAGE HAS THIS MESSAGE:

Server Upgrade

Dear WebBox Subscribers,

We are working on upgrading the WebBox servers. This will not change the way WebBox works, but it will provide a faster and more reliable system for you. This will involve taking the web site down for a time so that the database can be loaded on the new server.

This will not affect incoming mail. If you currently use WebBox to access another email address, we suggest using your email provider's webmail or another program to access your mail during the outage. If you have an email address provided by WebBox, you can still access your new messages using the POP3 server. The server settings are found on the FAQ page.

The database is currently being copied, which will take a few days. An exact time for the outage is not yet determined. It will be done as soon as the copy completes. In the meantime, the service is running slower than usual.

Also, a few accounts have experienced an issue where old messages were downloaded again from the POP3 server. This was an unintended side effect of copying the POP3 mailboxes with the service online. It is generally recommended that unwanted messages be deleted from the POP3 server.

Cordially,
The WebBox Staff
