As the 28th annual Lions Worlds Senior Men’s Fastball Tournament approaches in some 24 days ( deadline for entry is Friday August the 15th) here are a few notes . The host team the Relics will attempt for the first time to win the tournament underneath the direction of Ike McDonald , after coming close on several occasion .

In the house will be Metro Szeryk , hall of famer in fastball who started his illustrious career with the Silver Six back in Sudbury in the early to mid 60’s before leaving for a great second career in semi pro fastball on the eastern coast of the USA for some 30 years .He is a classy very tall gentleman who married a Sudbury gal and is coming back to his roots .You’ll be able to approach without any problem and talk fastball ..

Also in the house will be this year’s honorary chairperson , Jim Kirkwood another classy gentleman who won this tournament twice with his teammates back in the 90’s .He is retired from fastball now as mighty fine infielder . At the moment we have 17 teams with more to come .The tournament goes from August 29th to the 31st on Labor Day Weekend at the Rick McDonald Memorial Sports Complex in Azilda a suburb of Greater City of Sudbury .

As mentioned in my last message , the Annual Aboriginal (Native) Fastball Tournament for ladies and men now stands at 37 entries with more to come ..The deadline for entry is next Monday August the 11th .It will be played in Parry Island First Nation Reserve for the first time from August the 22nd to the 24th some 18 days away .There will be 6 divisions .A very special guest to be announce in a few says will be throwing out the first ceremonial pitch . Here are last year’s winners when it was played in Curve Lake First Nation near Peterborough . In ladies open the Six Nations Storm defeated the Bucktown Ladies twice to win (double knockout tournament ) while in men’s open it was an all Curve Lake affair with the Trappers defeating the Nimkee 5-0 . In women’s masters Turtle Island wins 9-7 in game 5 of a best of 5 .In men’s masters Lake Temagami Monsters defeated the Curve Lake Oshkigmong Gimaag 6-5 .Finally in the junior ladies (under 18) Moraviantown’s Lenape Warriors defeated Curve Lake Jrs by 1 run in the final game .There were no junior men’s . We wish good luck to all the present entries and the new ones coming in prior to the August 11th deadline . We should be in to a great tournament on Parry Island come August the 22nd
