Softball Canada Announces
2015 Women’s National Team Athlete Pool

(Ottawa, ON) Softball Canada is pleased to announce the list of athletes who have been named to the 2015 Women’s National Team Athlete Pool. The coaching staff will select twenty-six (26) athletes from the Women’s National Team Athlete Pool to attend a Pan American Games Selection Camp in Florida in December. In 2015, the Women’s National Team will compete at the Canadian Open Fastpitch International Championship in Surrey, BC, the US World Cup of Softball in Oklahoma City, OK and the 2015 Pan American Games, which will take in Ajax, ON. The team’s full 2015 schedule will be finalized at a later date.

“We have had a great summer and we are looking forward to the Pan American Games next summer” stated Mark Smith, Head Coach of the Women’s National Team. “The quality of the athlete pool continues to improve each year. If how the team played this summer is any indication, the Pan American Games Selection Camp should provide some tough battles for roster spots.”

The Women’s National Team completed its 2014 season when they finished fourth at the International Softball Federation (ISF) Women’s World Championship in Haarlem, Netherlands. Earlier in the summer, the team won the silver medal at the General Tire World Cup of Softball in Irvine, CA and the bronze medal at the Canadian Open Fastpitch International Championship in Surrey, BC.

The Women’s Softball competition at the 2015 Pan American Games will feature six teams, including Brazil, Cuba, the Dominican Republic, Puerto Rico, the United States, and the host team from Canada. The teams qualified for the event at the Women’s Pan American Softball Championship held in Guaynabo, Puerto Rico in 2013. The United States won the gold medal at that event, with Canada earning silver and Cuba going home with bronze.
