Additional athletes invited to USA Softball Women’s and Junior Women's National Team Selection Camp


OKLAHOMA CITY – The Amateur Softball Association (ASA) of America and USA Softball announced today an addition of athletes who have received an invitation to the 2015 USA Softball Junior Women’s National Team (JWNT) Selection Camp and Women's National Team (WNT) Selection Camp.  Slated to be held at Bill Barber Park in Irvine, Calif., the JWNT Selection Camp will be held January 3-4, 2015 while the WNT Selection Camp will be held January 5-7, 2015.

The additional invitees will join the 20 athletes who have already accepted their invitation to attend the 2015 USA Softball JWNT Selection Camp.  Seventeen athletes will be selected by members of the USA Softball Women's National Team Selection Committee (WNTSC) to represent the United States as a member of the 2015 JWNT roster that will compete at the World Cup of Softball X in July, 2015 in Southern California and the International Softball Federation (ISF) Junior Women's World Championship, which will be held August 9-15 in Oklahoma City, Okla. at the ASA Hall of Fame Complex.

 

ASA/USA Softball will also hold an open tryout opportunity for players hoping to make the 2015 USA Softball JWNT.  Held January 2, 2015 at Bill Barber Park,  eligible athletes have from now through December 5 to sign up and submit payment through USASoftball.com for the open tryout, which will involve a series of softball related skill drills for each position, hitting and bunting.  The top athletes from the open tryout will be selected to participate at the USA Softball JWNT Selection Camp along with the list of invited athletes.

 

With Tairia Flowers (Tucson, Ariz./ head coach at Cal State Northridge) at the head of the Junior Women’s program, joining Flowers as the assistant coaches for the JWNT staff are Trisha Ford (Fremont, Calif./head coach at Fresno State), Kristie Fox (San Diego, Calif./head coach at UT- Arlington) and Tim Walton (Cerritos, Calif./head coach at University of Florida).

The additional invitees will join the 28 athletes who have already accepted their invitation to attend the 2015 USA Softball WNT Selection Camp and will vie for 17 spots on the 2015 USA Softball Women’s National Team (WNT) roster that will compete at the World Cup of Softball X and a spot on the 15-athlete roster that will compete in the 2015 Pan American Games, which will be held July 15-26 in Toronto, Ontario, Canada.

 

With Ken Eriksen (Tampa, Fla./head coach at USF) at the head of the Women's program, the assistant coaches will be Laura Berg (Corvallis, Ore./head coach at Oregon State), Howard Dobson (Orange, Texas/assistant coach at LSU) and Lisa Dodd (San Diego, Calif./head coach at UNLV).
