ACT 89ers win the 32nd Men’s Softball National Championships

7 March 2015

ACT dominated all aspects of the game as they defeated NSW 9-0 to win their fifth consecutive John Reid Shield and ninth Men’s Softball National Championship in 10 years.  Adam Folkard showed why he is rated the world’s best pitcher throwing a three hit shutout that included 10 strike outs and was named the Player of the Grand Final for the third consecutive year.

ACT opened the scoring in the bottom of the first with Andrew Kirkpatrick hitting a bases loaded single driving in two runs, the only runs the ACT would need.  Leading 3-0 going into the bottom of the 4th, the 89ers scored two more runs before Zenon Winters launched two-out grand slam to complete the scoring.  Adam Folkard Struck out the side to close out the complete game win.

Earlier in the day NSW defeated hosts QLD 7-3 in the semi-final to earn the finals birth.  Victoria defeated South Australia in the 5v6 playoff game.

Final placings are:

  • ACT 89ers
  • NSW
  • Qld Patriots
