As part of the long term player development the Ontario Amateur Softball Association will be hosting 4 Springboard Clinics in the spring of 2015.
At each location a skills clinic will be given to children ages 8 to 16.  The morning session will be for children 8 to 12 and the afternoon session will be for children 13 to 16.
The cost for this clinic is $ 10 per child.  Each child will receive 3 hours of instruction, tee shirt and another giveaway item.
The participants will be instructed on hitting, throwing, catching, baserunning and pitching.
Also at each site there will be a Softball Ontario's Coaching Clinic if the minimum number of participants register.  This clinic focuses on the essentials of softball over one day, placing emphasis on safety, fun, ethics, teamwork and value beyond the game.  This clinic is ideal for T-ball, Learn to play,  Blastball, coach pitch and house league coaches.  Participants must be 16 years of age.
The cost of this clinic is $ 67.80 per participant.  This is an 8 hour course.
Also at each site the O.A.S.A. will be running a Softball Ontario Scorekeeping Clinic if the minimum number of participants are met.  This is a free clinic provided by the O.A.S.A.  This course is a beginner's course which will last for 4 hours.
This clnic deals with all notations needed to keep score properly.  Scorekeepers wil learn the basics of scoring hits, walks and strikeouts to marking errors, to runner progression.
 
The first clinic will be held March 21 at the Lakefield District Intermediate Secondary School,

The fourth clinic will be held April 25 at the Lindsay Collegiate and Vocational Institute, 260 Kent St. West, Lindsay, ON

OASA MASTERS REPORT

The Ontario Amateur Softball Association is pleased to announce a new division for the OASA Masters tournament in St.Clements July 17-19th. The hosts will be Twin Center Minor Softball, the Waterloo Classics and the Waterloo Legends50+.Sam Forbes is the host liason.
   
This new division will be an age 50+. All players must be born in 1965 or earlier and will be played in con-junction with the 40+Masters A and B tournaments. Tournament director is Mike Goodridge. He can be reached at goodridgesoftball@gmail.com or 289 389 9158
    "Early interest is extremely encouraging " said Director Goodridge " Along with last years entries we have Niagara Falls, Owen Sound, Sudbury, Grimsby, Napanee,  a second Waterloo 40+team ,and Durham expressing interest in participating in the event. The Ontario Masters all of Fame presentation will once occur at our event. 2015 inductees are Sylvia sparky Ryan, Roddy Fevreau, Jim Trimm, Mike "Red Dog" O"Hearn, Dana Seiling, and Paul Clemens.
   
 Masters fastball is a growth area in Ontario and the OASA is dedicated to provide a quality provincial championship showcasing the talents of the  long list of fastball players that have payed the game.  The co-operation that we have received has been tremendous and I am confident that will continue in 2015.
 
  Also at the tournament the 2014 Gil Read Coaching Award, OASA coach of the year will be presented to Pete Chambers from the Waterdown Hammer.
 
   In 2015 we will accept the first 6 teams in the Legends 50+ division and 10 teams in the 40+ Division that  register with the OASA.

ETHEL BOYCE MEMORIAL AWARD WINNER

Softball Canada’s Ethel Boyce Memorial Award was awarded in 2014 to Johnathan Baker of Kitchener. Currently in his second year in the Sport Management program at Brock University, Johnathan was a member of the 2014 Sebringville Cubs U21 team that competed at the Nationals and a captain of the 2014 Junior Men’s National team that competed at the ISF Junior Men’s World Championship in Whitehorse, YK. As an accomplished pitcher and valuable utility player, Johnathan was the only midget age player selected to play for Team Ontario in 2013. His overall dedication and sportsmanship to the sport of softball was recognized in 2012 when he was awarded the Peter Hallman Award by the North Waterloo Rural Minor Softball League. Good luck to Johnathan in the 2015 season!
