James Madison freshman Megan Good earns USA Softball Collegiate National Player of the Week honors

OKLAHOMA CITY — After producing a solid week both from the circle and at the plate, James Madison freshman Megan Good (Mount Sidney, Va.) has earned the Week 7 USA Softball Collegiate Player of the Week title, the Amateur Softball Association (ASA)/USA Softball announced today.  In addition to earning her second Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) Rookie of the Week accolades, the hurler also helped earn her team a vote in this week's ESPN.com/USA Softball Collegiate Top 25 Poll earlier today and improved her season record to 12-0 from the circle.

"What a great honor this is for Megan and an even greater honor for me to be able to coach her," James Madison Head Coach Mickey Dean said.  "Megan comes to the field every day, wanting and working to get better.  Megan has a great gift in her talents, but her best asset is that she never settles."

Good played a major role in helping the Dukes to a flawless 5-0 week, including a road sweep in their CAA conference opener against Towson.  In their first games of the week, JMU faced Virginia in a doubleheader at home.  In the first meeting, Good went 3-for-4, including a home run and three RBI while also earning the win with five strikeouts in five complete innings. Good would add another home run in game two versus the Cavaliers.

In the Dukes first conference games of the season, Good's bat came out hot as she went 2-for-3 with a double and one RBI.  Good also went the full eight-innings from the circle, striking out 11 Tigers while allowing just one unearned run to cross the plate.  Good kept her offense going in the second game of the series, going 2-for-4 to help the Dukes to a 4-3 win and earn the series victory.  In their final outing against Towson, Good once again led the Dukes to a win, striking out four batters through seven innings while allowing just two unearned runs to cross the plate in a 6-2 win.

For the week, Good went 3-0 in the circle with a perfect 0.00 ERA to move her season record to 12-0.  The Virginia native gave up just four unearned runs, nine hits and three walks while striking out 20 batters in 20 innings pitched.  At the plate, Good led her team with a .500 (8-for-16) average with a pair of home runs, five RBI and six runs scored.

This is the first USA Softball Collegiate National Player of the Week honors for Good and the first for an athlete from James Madison.
