PRESIDENTS MESSAGE

Welcome everyone to an exciting fastball season ahead for us in 2015. Plans have shaped up well for our tournament schedule for this coming season. All of our tournament hosts, locations dates and OASA Head Convenors have been established for the coming year and are listed on our website www.oasa.ca.
I would like to welcome our new enthusiastic hosts and say thanks also to our past reliable hosts for stepping up to be tournament hosts.
Our Springboards hosted by Curve Lake, Alvinston, Cambridge and Fenelon Falls are now complete. Although we were down in attendance  this year at our Springboards the enthusiasm shown by the athletes and parents attending was tremendous.
I would like to thank all of the host associations, coaches, scorekeepers, instructors and the Springboard committee lead by Gary Waugh for their hard work and help organizing these clinics.
Congratulations are in order to 2014-2015 Quest For Gold winners announced under the Ontario Athlete Assistance Program. The OASA would like to thank the Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Sport for their continued support to provide assistance to these well deserving athletes in their pursuit of excellence. Twelve cards were awarded this year and the winners are listed on the OASA website. Dave Northern our OASA Quest For Gold Chair did a lot of extra work for this program and deserves a lot of credit for his        outstanding effort in helping these athletes receive this grant money.
Affiliation deadlines for the 2015 season are fast approaching and I want to remind teams to meet these deadlines
May 25th  Pee-Wee U14, Bantam U16, Midget U16, Junior U21
June 10th Great Lakes ,Intermediate B/C, Senior , Masters
June 15th Junior Mite U8, Mite U10, Squirt U12
The Masters division continues to expand and will feature a new Legends 50+ age division in 2015. Tournament director Mike Goodridge will accept the first  6 teams in the 50 and over group as well as the first 10 teams to register for the 40 years and older division.
The OASA will once again be sending teams to Softball Canada Championships in Bantam U16, Midget U18, Junior U21 and Senior Men’s classifications this season.
If there is interest and a commitment shown among the teams once they are affiliated, the OASA we would also like to send teams to the following competitions
Western Canadians Manitoba -1 Pee-Wee U14 team
Eastern Canadians  Newfoundland -2 Pee-Wee U14 teams
Eastern Canadians  Nova Scotia  -2 Bantam U16 teams
Ontario teams had great success last year bringing home 13 medals  amongst  the teams the OASA sent to out of province events. We want to provide the same opportunity this year for all our teams but we need firm commitments to avoid costly fines when we don’t provide a team after we have committed to send a team to an out of province event.
The OASA is looking for nominations for the various awards that we present every year. For details of the criteria for these awards visit the OASA website at www.oasa.ca .
The OASA website lists all of the rules for each classification and the 2015 approved bat standard list. Regular updates are posted as they become available to keep us all informed of changes.
Team Ontario U21 is in it’s final stages of planning for the 2015 season. Once the training schedule is approved it will be posted on the website. Team Ontario staff will be scouting the Midget U18 and Junior U21 tournaments this season  All of the Midget and Junior team coaches will be sent a letter outlining the next camp format. The camp will take place in late August or the fall.
In closing, I want to wish everyone an enjoyable fun filled fastball season this year, I am really excited for our game looking forward in 2015.There are so many good things happening for fastball in Ontario this season. Pan-Am games in Ajax, Junior Men’s Canadians in Napanee, OASA Eliminations and Provincials in great locations, increased Select team involvement and increased participation among the many.

Hope to see you at the park.

Thanks,

George Ryder

MASTERS REPORT

One of the greatest pitchers in Ontario fastball history will be honored, by the naming of the Most Valuable Pitcher Award in the OASA Legends 50 plus division with the naming of the Pete Landers Award. OASA President George Ryder stated at a recent meeting, it is time we recognize some of the tremendous players who have performed so well in the province.
This is an exciting new division for the OASA and five teams have entered in the inaugral event. Participating teams wil be the host Waterloo Legends, Waterdown Hammer, Durham Bulls, Toronto Gators, and Ingersol Crush.
Masters Fastball is enjoying tremendous growth. The 40 plus division is looking extremely positive. The following teams have indicated verbal committements to participate. Defending Canadian Champion Missauga, defending OASA champion Waterdown hammer, Niagara Falls, St. Thomas, Niagara Falls ,Kitchener Outlaws, Arthur Merchants, Waterloo Classics, Oshwegen Braves, Grimsby Diamond Kings and a new entry Fenlon Falls.
" If we have five teams in the Legends Division and 10 teams in the 40+Division, it will be certainly show healthy growth, and in years to come, it will just improve. The future looks very rosy. " stated Tournament Director  Mike Goodridge. The real winner here is the OASA Scholarship Program Fund as all proceeds from the tournament is directed to this worthy cause.
The tournament is being held in St. Clements July 17-19. Admission is free and all spectators from the North American hotbed of fastball are encouraged to come out and watch these great athletes. SPRINGBOARDS 2015

The Springboards for the 2015 season have been completed.  I would like to thank all those who helped out with paperwork, instruction and attendance.
The Springboards this year were not as well attended as in previous years.  The benefit of this is that the participants received more one on one instruction.  All the participants enjoyed the clinics and were happy as they felt they had learned something from the clinics.
I would like to thank the hosts of the Springboards this year, Lakefield, Jeffery Jacobs, Alvinston, Andy Triest, Cambridge, Cambridge Minor Softball, Victoria Cavers & Lindsay Dave Lembke.
I would like to thank all the instructors, assistants and the people that did the paperwork for these clinics.  The CanPitch instructors and the Scorekeeping instructors.
If you have any feedback that would help the O.A.S.A. in what they should be doing to increase the numbers at the clinics, please get in touch with Garry Waugh at gwaugh@execulink.com
Also if you are interested in hosting a Springboard in 2016 please contact Garry Waugh.

SPRINGBOARD FEEDBACK

A complaint came from a mother of one of the Springboard participants. Her Son and husband attended the Springboard as an athlete and instructor. She talked about her sons excitement when he got home with his new shirt and the new ball he received after the clinic. He raced inside to show his mom the new softball he got and then after a three hour session at springboard he required another three hours outside playing "back yard ball" with the entire family.  Her complaint comes in the form of how the yard work was not completed by her husband Saturday afternoon due to the fact her son was too excited from Springboard and his new softball...that he just had to get outside and play this great game.
