Team Minnesota Website Updated for Red Rock

Saturday, March 31, 2007

Friday March 30, 2007

Minneapolis, Minnesota

  Team Minnesota is pleased to announce they will be traveling to St. George, Utah for the Red Rock Invitational May 5 and 6.

  A number of coaching commitments will force Team Minnesota to take on a different look than they had at the AAU International Tournament earlier this year.

  Team Minnesota has added Travis Price, Kyle Magnusson, Jeff Ellsworth, Tommy Thompson, Brett Olson and Paul Lybeck to their roster.

  Price joins Gerald Muizelaar and Rick Lang on the TM pitching staff.

  Magnusson, a Team USA maintay along with Price, will bring versatility to the Team Minnesota lineup.

  Ellsworth returns to the Team Minnesota outfield after having played with the club at the 2006 AAU.

  Thompson and Olson both bring a youth movement to the roster.  Thompson earned First Team All World honors with Village Inn at the NAFA A-Major World Series last August and Olson is a former All American Baseball player at the University of St. Thomas in St. Paul, Minnesota.

  Lybeck will oversee managerial duties for Team Minnesota in Red Rock.

  Team Minnesota is looking to improve upon their quarterfinal finish at the AAU International Tournament.

We are looking for a 16 team tournament again this year as there were 16
teams in 2003, 2004, 2005 and 2006.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Teams that are confirmed or that we are currently processing:
Portland Demarini
Gremlins/Broken Bow
So Cal Bombers
California Lumberkings
Larry Miller Hogs
Houston Aces
Team Minnesota
Santa Rosa Fastpitch
Many other teams have requested further information this week.
We anticipate filling the tournament for the fifth straight year.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

St. George is located in the southwestern corner of Utah. It's a warm
weather retirement community with seven beautiful diamonds consisting of
golf green quality outfields with enclosed fences. There is a full service
snack open during the entire tournament. The ball park is situated amongst
the beautiful backdrop of red colored mountains and green trees and lawns.

There is plenty of parking. The ball park is located just a few minutes away
from the city center. These are the most beautiful diamonds West of Orlando,
Florida's Disney World Complex. Many feel they are the finest they have ever
played on. The outfields are like carpets.

http://www.ci.st-george.ut.us/

Many teams over the years have made this a family trip combining Las Vegas
and the Red Rock tournament into a super 3-4 day holiday. They either arrive
a day early or leave a day later spending a night or two in Las Vegas. There
are special group rates for 10 or more people. A few of the players
significant others spent the entire time in Las Vegas and were joined by
their significant others either before or after the tournament.

http://www.vegas.com

Getting to the Red Rock International Invitational:

St. George Airport:
http://www.sgcity.org/airport/

The St. George airport is located about 5 minutes the downtown area and
about 10 minutes from the ball park and offers jet service as well as
commuter aircraft.

Las Vegas McCarran International Airport:
http://www.mccarran.com/airportguide.asp

Driving from the Las Vegas airport is about a 1½ hour drive North up
Interstate 15. As you approach the mountain pass approaching St. George, the
view is absolutely incredible. Be sure to bring your camera.

There is a shuttle between the Las Vegas airport and/or the Salt Lake City
airport to both hotels listed below in St. George:

http://www.stgshuttle.com/

Salt Lake City Airport http://www.slcairport.com/

Driving from the Salt Lake City Airport is about a 5 hour drive South on
Interstate 15.

Driving from Southern California can easily be calculated via Las Vegas.

Ken Hackmeister, executive director of the International Softball Congress
(ISC) will once again serve as Tournament Director.

Josh Olmstead of St George Leisure Services will be the Host Administrator
of the tournament.

Roy Stout will be the Umpire-in-Chief.

Bob Henning is Deputy Umpire-in-Chief.

Umpires are from various locations around the USA and Canada. Many have ISF
International and/or ISC World Tournament experience. All of the games will
work the three-umpire system.

It is expected teams will be from USA, Canada and Mexico.

Games will conclude on Sunday early enough for teams to make flights from
Las Vegas.
