Al Doran is president and chief executive officer of Phenix Management International, a consulting firm headquartered in Toronto and specializing in assisting organizations of all sizes to develop and maintain effective human resources management systems.
Previously Mr. Doran was director, Human Resources Management Information and Payroll at York University, Toronto, Ontario. He has more than 25 years of experience in the design, development, and application of computer-based information systems, with particular emphasis in personnel, payroll, and human resources planning functions.
While at York, Mr. Doran was responsible for the development and implementation of a “state of the art†human resources information system for the university. He was also responsible for an annual payroll in excess of $200 million. Using the latest methodologies, Mr. Doran worked on the re-engineering of current human resources practices to streamline operating procedures, reduce paper, and distribute management information to line managers.
In his previous assignment, Mr. Doran was responsible for directing the development of all personnel and labour relations systems for one of Canada’s largest Crown corporations, Canada Post. He was responsible for coordinating a major project to develop a comprehensive and coherent structure that will be used as the blueprint for all future HR systems development.
As manager of the Research Information Systems at the Canadian Forces Personnel Applied Research Unit in Toronto, he developed one of the most comprehensive people databases in Canada.
Mr. Doran is a Certified Human Resource Professional (CHRP), The Human Resource Professionals Association of Ontario (1991), In 1996 Mr. Doran was the first Canadian recipient of the Summit Award, IHRIM’s highest honour, for “his significant, long-standing contributions to the Association’s mission and goals.â€
Mr. Doran is Secretary of the Human Resource Management Systems Professionals (HRMSP) and a past president of the Board of the International Association for Human Resources Information Management (IHRIM).
