Riversharks Sweep Redmen
ISC Travel League of Eastern Canada
at Duncan McLellan Park, Owen Sound
Games 23-24
The Orillia Riversharks swept the Oshweken Redmen 9-2 & 8-1 in a
doubleheader.
The games marked the first ISC action in Owen Sound since the 2003 Canadian
Championship Tournament which was won by the now-defunct Owen Sound Selects.
Owen Sounders played a prominent role for the Riversharks in the two wins as
both Frank Cox and Andy Jackson were the winning pitchers.
Oshweken led the opener 2-1 in the 4th after a sacrifice fly by catcher Dave
Sowden drove in Calvin Miller.
However, the Riversharks exploded for 5 runs in the bottom of the inning.
Dwayne McKenzie tied the match with an rbi double which was followed by a 3
run homer from Steve Mullaly.
McKenzie and Sean O'Brien homered in the 5th to seal the win for Orillia.
Cox gave up 3 hits and struck out 9 to win the opener.
For the Redmen Mike Joseph took the loss as he was touched for 7 hits.
In the nightcap, Mullaly scored in the first and third innings to give
Orillia 2-0 lead.
Oshweken got on the board in the top of the 4th when pitcher Rory Miller
drilled an r.b.i. double to score Calvin Miller.
However, the Sharks added one in the bottom of the inning when shortstop
Steph Walma knocked in McKenzie.
Then in the 6th, the Riversharks had another 5 run inning to end it,
highlighted by two run homers from both Mullaly and Jackson.
Jackson got the win in the circle for the Riversharks and was impressive
striking out 15.
Rory Miller took the loss for the Redmen.
The Riversharks will return to Duncan McLellan Park July 4th for a
doubleheader against the Niagara Snappers
