FASTBALL LEGENDS Honoured in Kitchener

June 7, 2009

Kitchener, ON

Fastball Legends Honoured in Kitchener
Two fastball pitchers of renown were recognized at the annual Legends Fastball Tournament in Kitchener.

Dan Yantzi, originally from Tavistock and now a resident of Waterloo,  a two-time (1991 and 1993) All-World pitcher at the ISC Championships, and the first Canadian pitcher inducted into the International Softball Congress Hall of Fame, played for the "love of the game" at the senior level from 1978 (Kitchener Evergreens) and closed out his career with the Waterloo Twins (1988-95).

Bill Horne of St. Thomas commenced his senior playing career in Port Stanley, and was a dominant pitcher in the 1970s with the St. Thomas Durston Pools team, sporting an impressive 65-10 win-loss record in 1974 and a league batting crown in 1976. Bill currently manages the St. Thomas Evergreen Centennials and is chair of the host committee for the 2009 Canadians scheduled for the last week of August in St. Thomas.

Attached are two photos:
#1 - Tournament Committee Chair Larry Lynch (centre) of Kitchener presents Legends Recognition Awards to Bill Horne (left) of St... Thomas and Dan Yantzi (right) of Waterloo. The pitching duo joined 24 others who have been recognized in the first six years of the event hosted by Woodstock (2002-2007) and Kitchener (2008-09).

#2 - Dan Yantzi has always been a proponent of "two feet on the rubber" and on Saturday afternoon the feet of Legends Dan Yantzi (left) and Bill Horne (right) "toed it up" on Diamond #1 at Peter Hallman Ball Yard in Kitchener.

Congratulations Bill and Dan.
