2010 Fargo Holm Classic

This years Holm Classic was a complete success with great teams, great weather and amazing action including a 19-25 sluggfest that included 13 home runs and an amazing back and forth championship game that saw the MN Angles defeat the Saskatoon Diamond Backs in 9 innings. Game recaps and individual player stats to come but here is the recap of the championship game.

If ESPN had been there this would have been an instant classic. Two great fastball clubs battled for 9 innings in order to determine this years champion of the Holm Classic.
In the first inning Saskatoon came on strong scoring their first two batters of the inning while Jeff Farion pitch the Angles scoreless through 4 innings.
The Angels chalked up a run in the 5th Inning when Tommy Thompson doubled in Brandon Aman for the Angels first run. Trevor Hrycuik for Saskatoon made two great defensive plays in right field to halt the Angels inning and strand a runner on 2nd base. In the bottom of the inning the Dbacks answered back when Brennan Pokoyoway homered off of Kevin Kammueller. The 5th inning ended 3-1 in favor of the Dbacks.
The 6th inning brought the bats as Brandon Aman hit a 3 run shot to center field and with another run in the inning the Angels took the lead 5-3. In the bottom of the inning the Dbacks came on strong again when Nick Needham led the inning off with a solo home run and was followed up by Collin Schaan with a two run shot to right center regaining the lead for Saskatoon 6-5.
The Angels had plenty of fight left in them as Jeff Mataczynski led off for the Angles in the top of the 7th with a solo home run to tie the game at 6 all. The Angels threatened to open the game up but relief pitcher Colby Bierle stranded three runners on base to end the Angel threat. Kammueller held the Dbacks scoreless in the bottom of the 7th inning to send the game in to extra innings.
In the top of the 9th inning for the Angles Boomer Berry reach based on an error and Chris Diethert "Tick" knocked a base hit through the infield to regain the Angles lead.
In the bottom of the inning Kammueller gave up a base hit to lead off hitter Pokoyoway but was able to get Dean Holoien to hit into a 5-4-3 double play to give the Angels a breath. However the next three batters for the Dbacks reached on hits to load the bases. With two outs Kammueller got Jon Equina to ground out to end the game and crown the Angles the 2010 Holm Classic Champions.
