Lords finish opening weekend with 3-1 record

WINDSOR, Ont. – After sweeping their doubleheader at Fanshawe on Saturday, the Durham College women's softball team split their games at St. Clair Sunday afternoon in Windsor.

The Lords picked up a 4-3 victory in the first game against the Saints, but were unable to score in the second game as they lost their first game of the OCAA season 7-0.

Caitlyn Omelanchuk was credited with the victory in game one of their doubleheader, her second of the season. She also pitched her second complete game, allowing three earned runs over seven innings, while walking one batter and striking out four.

Durham trailed St. Clair 3-0 after five innings, but scored two runs in both the sixth and seventh innings to go ahead 4-3. Leading the Lords at the plate, Cassidy Gallant was 2-for-4 at the plate with run scored, while Rebecca Ropp was also 2-for-4 with two doubles and an RBI.

Mackenzie Naccarato and Megan McDonald each added an RBI apiece for the Lords.

Jenna Pierce took the loss for the Saints. She pitched seven innings, allowed nine hits, no earned runs, two walks and struck out two. Sarah and Hailey Bondy each led St. Clair at the plate in the game going 1-for-3 with a run and RBI.

In the second half of the doubleheader Durham was unable to hit Allison Telfer who pitched a complete game shutout for the Saints. She went seven strong with five strikeouts. Telfer gave up six hits and walked two batters.

Samantha MacCallum took the loss for the Lords, going 2.1 innings, while allowing three runs on six hits. She was forced to leave the game early with an injury, making way for Emma Greer. In relief she went 3.2 innings with four earned runs against, six hits and two strikeouts.

Ropp was the top batter for Durham again as she went 2-for-3 at the plate with a double. Megan Lumley led the way for St. Clair as she was a perfect 3-for-3 offensively, while picking up three RBIs and scoring one run.

The Lords are home this Friday night against the Seneca Sting for their first doubleheader at Durham Field. Game one gets underway at 6 p.m.
