In game 2 of the finals St. Thomas traveled to Alvinston with the scrappy 9 and put up a good fight before falling 5-4.Playing on the big diamond, St. Thomas scored 2 runs in the first inning on a monster homerun by Mark Coleman to straight away center field and Alvinston replied with 3 in the bottom on a gapper by Jamie Shields. In the 5th after a conference at the mound, Kyle Crawford hit Coleman - yet again, to load the bases. That caused a bit of a melee and warning by the umpire to both teams to calm down. Two wild pitches later the score was 4-3 St. Thomas. In the bottom of the 7th Andy Triest bunted and raced to 3rd on the errant throw. He scored on a grounder to tie it at 4.Jeff Lyons then continued his torrid hitting with a shot over the head of the Storm center fielder to win the game 5-4.Crawford went the distance as did Ryan Cummings who was the hard luck losing pitcher.Game 3 in Sunday at 7pm in Fingal and promises to be a spirited affair between these 2 bitter rivals.
