St. John’s reportedly getting 2016 national senior softball championship

Sources says an announcement is coming soon that St. John’s will be awarded the 2016  national senior men’s softball championship.

The city last hosted the event in 2007 when the double fields at the Caribou Complex in  Pleasantville were used.

However, that facility is now  primarily used for slo pitch, and much of the parking that  existed in that area is now longer available, meaning  Lions Park, home of the  St. John’s senior and  intermediate leagues, could be the main venue for the  nationals.

Details have yet to be  revealed, but the Canadian championship is traditionally held in late August and/or early September.

Newfoundland has produced the last three national senior men’s champions, the latest being the Galway Hitmen.
