Greer and Harkness named athletes of the week
OSHAWA, Ont. - Emma Greer (Peterborough, Ont.) and Brodie Harkness (Bowmanville, Ont.) have been named the Durham College student-athletes of the week presented by Boston Pizza North Oshawa for the period ending Oct. 11.
Greer, a first-year sport management student, had some of her best outings of the season for the women's softball team over the weekend during the CCSA national championship held at Durham Field.
In the team's opening game of the tournament, against the eventual 2015 national champion St. Clair Saints, she pitched 3.0 innings in relief, allowing only one earned run on four hits and a walk.
Starting Durham's next game of the weekend, she held the four-time defending national champion Western Mustangs to four runs, two earned, over 6.0 innings. She struck out one batter and allowed eight hits in her outing.
The Lords are back in action on Wednesday when they travel to Mohawk for their doubleheader against the Mountaineers.
Harkness, a first-year general arts major, was nearly untouchable in the opening game of the men's baseball doubleheader at Kinsmen Stadium against Seneca on Friday night.
He threw a complete game, allowing only four hits and one walk. Harkness recorded eight strikeouts in the shutout victory.
Durham wraps up their regular season on the road this Saturday against the Humber Hawks. Humber is tied for second place with the Fanshawe Falcons, with both teams 9-6. The Lords are currently holding the final playoff spot in the OCAA with a 6-12 record.
