Lords sweep Falcons, split weekend at home

OSHAWA, Ont. - With a pair of wins over the Fanshawe Falcons on Sunday, the Durham College women's softball team has clinched a spot in the OCAA championship next weekend at Durham Field.
The Lords swept the Falcons with 10-6 and 9-5 victories at Durham Field, Durham College's final home games of the regular season. Earlier in the weekend the St. Clair Saints took both games of their doubleheader at Durham Field, defeating the Lords 12-4 and 10-7.
Megan McDonald (Brampton, Ont.) earned the victory, her third of the season, in the opening game of the doubleheader against Fanshawe. She allowed four earned runs on seven hits, while striking out three over 5.2 innings.
Emma Greer (Peterborough, Ont.) pitched 1.1 innings in relief, giving up no earned runs on four hits.
Bowmanville's Cassidy Gallant led Durham at the plate going 3-for-4 with a triple and one RBI. Meaghan Maddigan (Brampton, Ont.) and Alanna Stanoev (Whitby, Ont.) were both 2-for-3, each picking up a triple.
Former Durham Lord and the Falcons starting pitcher, Lydia Kalbfleisch, allowed no earned runs over her 0.2 innings pitched, but allowed eight runs on seven hits and one walk, while striking out two. Alanna Gilmour threw 5.1 innings, allowing two runs on six hits. She also struck out two batters.
In the second half of Sunday's doubleheader Caitlyn Omelanchuk (Whitby, Ont.) pitched a complete game for the win, her sixth of the season. She allowed five runs on nine hits and three walks, while striking out two.
Gilmour took the loss for the Falcons, going 0.2 innings. She allowed five earned runs on nine hits and three walks. Jacey Lochert threw 5.1 innings, allowing three earned runs on eight hits and two walks.
At the plate for the Lords, Marina Christie (Pickering, Ont.) was 3-for-4 with an RBI, while Omelanchuk was 2-for-3 with a double, triple and two RBIs.
After the doubleheader Durham College recognized their seven graduating seniors, which included Samantha MacCallum (Whitby, Ont.), Justine Pike (Whitby, Ont.), Maddigan, Mariah Gallant (Bowmanville, Ont.), Cassidy Gallant (Bowmanville, Ont.), Tara Robinson (Mount Albert, Ont.) and Hope Eagleson (Plattsville, Ont.).
The Lords will now prepare for their doubleheader on Tuesday night in Kitchener against the Conestoga Condors. Although all four playoff positions are a lock, Durham is now playing for placement heading into the OCAA championship, which they host Oct. 23-24 at Durham Field in Oshawa.
